I am noticing a little of the liking the ones that look like them the most from at least some of mine. But you have more sets then me so that is interesting that you see some of that too.

In case anyone is looking for a rooster to add to their flock, two nice looking cockerels are looking for their own backyard flock to protect. Hatched April 18, from a Dominique rooster and the hen was likely a Jersey Giant for the darker rooster (she had several hens eggs that she hatched) and...

If it is from one of the wild ducklings or looks like it, if you have a wildlife rescue they may take it in.

Two 11 week old Dominique-type Cockerels in Gilroy CA

I had made a more indirect comment in a reply to someone transporting a hen pretty close to me. But thanks, I can see if a direct post results in any leads.

Two nice looking cockerels are looking for their own backyard flock to protect. Hatched April 18, from a Dominique rooster and the hen was likely a Jersey Giant for the darker rooster (she had several hens eggs that she hatched) and perhaps a dark Brahma for the lighter one. In Gilroy California.

It is great to have that kind of experience/knowledge so generously shared. I have not officially thought of what the definition of sport pony is but in my mind it was the ponies who are athletic and bred to do athletic things versus just for what they looked like e.g. showing in halter classes...

How to store/keep eggs? My first chickens laid eggs.

I also have my first flock and my oldest pullet just started laying eggs. So even in hot weather if I don't know how long the egg was out it sounds like there is not problem since the bloom is on the egg. This post made me curious to search and see if any BYC polls have been done regarding how...

    Funniest chicken names

I know someone who tries to name chicken-inspired names like Eggnog, Bo Peep, Clucker. You can get a bunch of people together and even if they don't own chickens, they can be very inspired to come up with very interesting chicken-inspired names, lol.

Seems like many cities are open to chickens, up to a certain small number in the city, it is the roosters that are not allowed. While I was thinking of getting chickens for the last year or so, I was surprised by how many people in every city you can imagine in the Bay Area that have them...

I am new to chickens too. Do you find that your sets of two all get along the same or do they tend to like the one most like them the most?

    Aggressive roo

The experienced breeder I got a rooster and hen from also said there is no reason to keep an aggressive Roo. My friend had one that had him bleeding every week. On the off chance it was just confused, she suggested picking it up and cooing and talking to it like a baby to it to embarrass it...

    I want chickens

I just got my chickens about a month ago. I have already changed their living spaces a few times. My husband says our eggs will be $300/egg, lol. Mostly it was because I wanted them to have a big and high enough run to make it easy for them and me to get around and to protect them when I...
