    Cull or Treat?

Hi everyone, im trying to understand what is up with my hen. She was a beautiful, Stunning hen we got from a (now known) not so reputable breeder. Over the winter we noticed she started to lose some feathers on her head and assumed she was getting pecked. She kept losing more feathers and they...

    Aggressive, Broody Hen

I have 2 little kids who would be devastated. But I suppose we could make room for 2 more 🙄

    Aggressive, Broody Hen

well that’s the thing for us: we have 17hens now (9 new chicks) and no more room. I don’t want to get eggs to hatch and have to do something bc my kids would be devastated. And yes, her crate is elevated, wire and no bedding. This has been a tough one...

    Aggressive, Broody Hen

es, it’s a wire crate with no bottom to try to cool her down. She’s missing all her belly feathers too. And she’s normally a very calm and kind hen so when she’s pecking and jumping on her sister hens it’s hard to watch. We let her out of the crate yesterday for a bit to see what she’d do, and...

    Excessively Broody Hen

my Orpington, who is known to get broody from time to time has reached a new level and I’m worried. After her latest round (this is 4 now) we put her in her quarentine crate. She’s been in there for 10 days. Drinking but unsure about eating.Today we took her out to see how she is and she became...

    Rooster???

so I think this white thing is a rooster, no? “She” was supposed to be a hen but of late she’s been grown a ton, her tail is really pretty and she’s always been a little aggressive. Plus this morning someone in our hen house “cock-a-doodle-do’d” and of all our chicks, she seems to be the only...

Temporary Paralysis... Marek’s or Something else?

hi chicken friends. I have a strange situation with my 2.5 month Cochin. I poultry dusted all of our 6 chicks this past week. The next day my husband went to check on them and Henny Penny was laying around and could not move; she was flopping. My husband was worried her back was broken. She was...

    Help!!!! So frustrated!!!!!!

Thank you. This is the most chicks we’ve ever had at one time and feel like we’re doing something wrong. We lost a Cochin when she fell from the brooder (run over by a bigger chick), a bantem who was always a little lethargic, now this with my gold laced and have a Rhode Island too who is acting...

    Help!!!! So frustrated!!!!!!

She’s with 5 other new chicks. She’s eating the chick feeder grower. She’s in our 60 degree heated garage at night, but she’s still one of the smallest of the brood. We’ve had her for a week but this has just started the last day or two.

    Help!!!! So frustrated!!!!!!

second post today: my 4 week old chick has slowly been growing a big belly under her vent. It’s really swollen. She’s acting totally fine. I rinsed her with warm water and used vegetable oil on her vent to make sure she can poop easily. Does anyone know what the heck This might be????

Thank you for your thoughts, I appreciate it. Anything we can do at home to treat respiratory illness? We don’t have a vet nearby.... that treats chickens anyway...

    Eye Problem?

This is one of our new spring chicks. She’s always acted a little strange and has had these - what I think - are strange looking eyes. She often walks with her head down to one side looking close at the ground. She’s managed to eat and grow just fine... is she blind/partially blind? Do chicks...
