Yes - They have an outdoor open bottomed run that they are able to hang out in all day and pick for bugs.. They rarely spend time in their doghouse/coop - only to sleep!
How soon should I expect them to start back again? It's been well over a week and I haven't gotten a single egg from 2 of my girls.. Should I switch back? or just keep on the food I have now? My 3rd layer has kept on laying, but she had just started when I switched food. They've only been...
So I went out of town and had a friend watching my girls for me while I was away.. came back home and realized I was out of food! I had to work and my normal feed store across town was closed, so I went to the one near my job that only sells Manna Pro egg layer - I like it better, not as dusty...
Approximately how many hours do they need? It doesn't get dark here until 7:30pm and our weather in Central Florida is still in the 80-90's... I love her just as much - but would be ecstatic to see her finally laying..
Hi BYC!
So I have 3 Black Australorps that are 32 weeks old each.. 2 of my girls started laying about 4-6 weeks ago but I still have one that's not laying yet - what gives? I can tell her combs are not as developed as the other two, but wow how much longer will she have to wait until they grow...
Is it possible? I noticed this one trying to climb/peck one of my girls - it's the loudest of my 3 birds and the most developed.. Please tell me it's a really loud pecking hen?
So one of my three 23 week olds started laying about 1 little egg every other day last week... But, now she's stopped completely! I had an old trash bin w/pine shavings as a nest box but it cracked, so I've replaced it with a 5 gallon bucket - could the change make her not want to lay? She...
I have 3 Black Australorps that are 21 weeks and I JUST got my first little egg today
The other two are squatting but I think I know which one laid it.. I read on this site that the legs get a light pink color - which I didn't think would apply to mine since they're all black. But I noticed...
I thought it'd never come!! But as I was cleaning the run this afternoon I saw this in the nest box!! YipEEEEEEEeeEe!!!
And after re-counting they are 21.5 weeks.. only one egg so far, but hey - i'll take it!!
Well I hope its egg time soon..!
They've been on the same schedule since they were about 5 weeks old - they're in their coop until about 5:30-6pm and get let out until about 8pm or until it starts to get dark. All 3 of them are yet to lay an egg and this noise just started about 2 weeks ago in...
O.. M.. G.. My girls were SO loud this morning!!! They sound just like this:
Bawk Bawk Baaaaaaaaaaaaaawkkkk!
But - NO eggs!! I thought it was the egg song - cuz WOW it sounds JUST like the hen in the video.. They've been doing this for a couple of weeks now.. Should I cover them at night and...
I suppose patience is a virtue.. It's just not fun! Lol
I checked yesterday - still nothing. The box sits on the ground under their poop board.. I constantly am checking it and keeping it clean by removing any lose feathers or poo that may have blown in, but no. nothing. not one egg...
I called my feed store and they have Nutrena layer crumbles that I was going to pick up this weekend - is that a good brand to switch to? Will they still need Oyster Shell on top of that? they have an open bottomed coop and are able to pick dirt and pebbles for grit. I believe what they were...
Rusty - 2 of them have red wattles and combs. I'll try to take a picture when I get home of all 3 so everyone can see what i'm referring to. I'd even be excited at this point to find one in the yard! Lol. I'd heard that hens are usually done laying by 3pm, which is why I never really looked...
Ridgerunner, Ok starting to feel a bit better about the situation.. Thank you!
Rosie - They free range as soon as I get home, I let them out of their coop for several hours everyday - other than that they are in an open bottomed run w/a coop house attached. I'll comb the yard today to see if...
Ooh.. I didn't even think about the poop issues they may have w/the switching of food. Do I need to add oyster shell? They have an open bottomed run and are free to pick at the ground for bugs and whatnot all day - plus they free range in my yard as soon as I get home from work and let them out.
My 3 Black Australorps will be 21 weeks this Sunday and still not a single egg!!! I thought Australorps were supposed to be heavy layers? I thought they were supposed to start at 18 weeks? I thought once their wattles and combs grew in they'd lay?
Apparently all I thought was wrong.. Are...
