    Best cheap run roofing

I used corrugated fiberglass roofing for mine. It was on sale and seemed way sturdier than the slightly cheaper corrugated PVC roofing. I got clear "FiberLite" roofing panels from Menards. My coop is shaded most of the time, so I liked the clear to give some more natural light without having...

When do they start to perch?

Mine are four weeks old and while they spend time on the perches during the day, they still sleep on the floor of their coop in a pile too.

    Too dumb for horizontal nipples?

I've had two batches of chicks figure out how to use the horizontal nipples on day one. We took away the water dish on day 3 and they've been good. They don't have to peck them, they typically use their beaks to push the metal thing over and water comes out. Once you get one of them using it...

    Room too cold?

That's warmer than my basement, and my chicks were fine.

    horizontal nipples for chicks?

I've had good luck with my chicks catching on right away with horizontal nipples. I have left a dish of water for them for a few days, but as long as one of them can do the nipples, they'll all figure it out. I haven't had bantams, so YMMV.

Easy transition from vertical to horizontal nipples

I've had two batches of chicks catch on to the horizontal nipples on the day they came in the mail. We left a dish of water out for them for a few days to make sure they were getting water, but it was super annoying because they kept kicking the pine shavings into..even when we raised it up a...

Adding baby chicks to current 2 week old chicks

Here's one from that first day with the younger chicks. The brooder was bigger that it looks in the photo, and we actually moved the out to the coop today with a great lamp to give them more room.

Is it alright to keep this chicks with 2 week old ones

I'm doing it now. Just got some chicks in the mail a few days ago and successfully integrated with chicks exactly two weeks older. There was a little pecking the first day from one of the older chicks, but everyone gets along great now.

Adding baby chicks to current 2 week old chicks

An update on mine: the pecking we had from the older chicks stopped after the first day and they all get along great. The younger chicks love following the lead of the older ones and the older ones are cool with it too.

Adding baby chicks to current 2 week old chicks

I'm in the same boat as you, though I only have three 2-week-olds (two BRs and one Brown Leghorn) and I got four babies (all RIRxRIW Cinnamon Queens) this morning. They have been altogether today and the older ones (mostly the leghorn) peck a little, but mostly getting used to the new ones...

Horizontal Nipple Waterer on day one

Hey all, I've been a lurker for a while, but this is my first post. I've read conflicted opinions on when to start with poultry nipples. I just wanted to share that we picked up our second batch of baby chicks today (like two hours ago) and they are already drinking from the horizontal...

Help!! Bloated crop in week old chicks

This seems to be a normal thing for my chicks, based on breed and personality. Our brown leghorn gorges herself and is really greedy and ends up with a very large crop at times, but she's been this way since we got her. One of our barred rocks tends to have a fuller crop than the other. They...
