Sexing 2 and a half week old Barred Rock Chicks

Don't feel bad, I was given 5 chicks in the spring, and 4 of them turned out to be boys. Some of us are just lucky like that!

Thank you for the info! I wondered because I thought maybe they weren't considered "true blue" if they have any brown at all on their feathers.

Thank you!! ☺️ I think he's a pretty boy, even if he is an ass. I think Kiwa and her egg are both lovely!! And wow, that egg is good sized too, it seems a good bit larger than the light brown eggs my little BSL girl lays. I hope to have a pastel egg layer some day.

Sexing 2 and a half week old Barred Rock Chicks

I have no personal experience with BRs, but from what I've read, I think #4 & #7 look like pullets to me, because the white stripes on their wings are very narrow. I think #2 might also be a pullet, based on the well-defined head spot, but then again #2's wings look male-ish to me, so that is...

Right?! Seems like Google sends me here at least a half dozen times every day... pretty much every question I've had so far has already been answered on BYC!

Any idea what breed he is?

Oh, wow! This guy looks like he could be the love child of my two boys!! lol What a gorgeous bird... such a shame he was too aggressive!

Any idea what breed he is?

I definitely have been reminding myself not to be complacent with him... and since he always has that "look" in his eye now, it's pretty easy to remain vigilent. I'm hoping he won't get any worse because he's beautiful, and he has been keeping my hen company (the mystery splash cockerel stays...

Any idea what breed he is?

I agree... my son went around the corner from me a couple of weeks ago, and the roo pecked him on the back of the neck. I was furious, but it was my fault for letting my son out of my sight. I won't allow that to happen again, and I stay between the roo and my son when he's outside now...

Any idea what breed he is?

This is exactly what's happened with my other rooster! Just within the last month or two he's started challenging people who he doesn't see every day (pretty much everyone but me and my toddler), and he watches for opportunities to challenge us, too. Very frustrating!!

Maybe they'll post properly this time...? ‍♀️ It gave me error messages too, lol. Sorry about that! ETA: I know EE's can be hard to distinguish from Ameraucana, does he appear to be a true Ameraucana like I thought? Also, would his coloring be considered a blue wheaten, or is it called...

Any idea what breed he is?

I do really love his splash coloring and white legs... he's gorgeous; it's too bad he's so shy. I've never even heard of Andalusians or Yokohamas, I'll have to read up! Thanks!

Hello all, from just outside of Abilene. I'm new to the BYC site, and to keeping chickens as well. I've got 3 "adults" (6 months old) and 3 chicks, each one is a different breed. There's a sweet BSL pullet (see my profile pic), an annoying Ameraucana roo, and an unfriendly mystery roo... plus a...

Any idea what breed he is?

This guy is about 6 months old. He came from one of an assortment of eggs purchased by an elementary school teacher friend of mine, and was hatched as part of a class project, so I have been given no information on what breed or cross he may be. He has always been skittish and not at all...

    Hello

Hi all... I'm Amy, in Texas. I have been lurking off and on since I was given 5 assorted, newly-hatched chicks in March. BYC is a fantastic resource and I've found lots of helpful information here! As my luck would have it, four of my chicks turned out to be cockerels. Two of the boys were...
