Hi all...
I'm Amy, in Texas. I have been lurking off and on since I was given 5 assorted, newly-hatched chicks in March. BYC is a fantastic resource and I've found lots of helpful information here!
As my luck would have it, four of my chicks turned out to be cockerels. Two of the boys were killed after they chased each other out of the yard. I still have a black sex link pullet (that's her with my youngest in my profile pic), a blue Ameraucana cockerel, and a very pretty cockerel that I can't identify... they are all 6 months old.
Last week I managed to hatch one of my hen's eggs in a makeshift incubator; I believe the chick is a pullet. Today, I bought a minorca chick and a Japanese bantam chick from the local feed store to keep her company in the brooder. I'm also watching a few more eggs that I'm hoping will soon hatch.
I have lots of questions, so I've been checking BYC almost daily. I'm looking forward to learning more about raising chickens, and I really appreciate the members of the BYC community for sharing your knowledge!
