Just an update even in a very roasty brooder, he still sometimes has his head shaking. He doesn't appear to be cold, just vibrates his beak back and forth sometimes.
I have a fresh from the egg Belgian D'Uccle. It hatched maybe 2 days early. Shipped eggs and only 3/12 eggs even began to develop. The other 2 eggs have not even pipped yet. He unzipped on his own.
Anyways, he is out walking around in the incubator still which is still at 37 degrees. There is a...
So we have a Beltsville turkey and she was starting to get broody, spending more and more time in the nest.
So we figured best way to bust it is just to have her hatch some out. We don't have a tom, so we just decided to throw a couple fertalized buff orpington eggs under her.
Well we candled...
Ya just to add to the pile we help fairly often too. Our incubator kind of sucks so it's hard to regulate humidity.
If they internal pip but no external pip after a few hours, we help it with an external pip. If they are moving breathing and peeping with their external pip we mostly just leave...
I left my incubator on the table and the sun moved and shone on it and the temp went up to maybe 106 while I was at work. I still had like 90% hatch rate.
Depends how hot they got inside I'm guessing.
Bullet and wedge cameras are just body styles.
But yes if you're hiring specialists they can probably put together something nicer for you than ubiquity cameras. It will cost more though.
Looked into available incubators and they really seemed expensive for what you get. Decided to build my own.
Decided on some insulated plywood and coated foil foam for the design.
So started playing with the 3D modelling software both for fun and to get part dimensions. Looks like the turner...
If you don't want to roll your own solution, Ubiquiti/Unifi makes a pretty easy to use cameras. The G3 Flex is a not bad and cheap option. Keep in mind you will have to run and terminate network cabling to each camera. If you want to record video you need an NVR (which they also make).
If...
It is a 4 month old beltsville.
Just wondering on what the sex might be. Still has fuzz on the back of its neck which Ive read means female, but it fans out the tail sometimes to make the classic turkey shape which makes me question that. We incubated a few eggs but only one hatched so I don’t...
I have a calibrated hygrometer in there now, but we got sucked into doing a batch of 6 turkey eggs for eating, so the incubator is out of comission for a month or so hah.
That is actually a tough one. Usually it is way more obvious than that. Most of the baby pics I saw, the roos have a pure white face, and black body, with white spot. The pullets have brown on the face, and black body, no spot.
Yours both seem to have black and brown mixed and maybe a spot...
We finally got settled to the point that this is exactly the sex linked cross I’m looking for. These are my two favourite breeds. I found a nice roo(tho his tail is very lacking but he’s absolutely massive). And our BR hens are very chunky and 1 egg/day/hen most of 365 days a year.
Should be an...
I just let the hatched ones roll the eggs every which way like they would do in nature anyways. No issues yet (with that...only on 4th hatch now though :D)
Ya it seems like the power circuitry in the unit has partially failed. If you know which heating element you could try it they are usually cheap but doesn’t look good.
