Electric fencing, do you really need it vs non electric fencing

You'll want fencing - we used non electric horse fence because it is much stronger than regular fencing. As well, we have a wooded area that the chickens love - they perch on the lower branches of trees and take afternoon naps out there. However, don't think that the canopy will protect...

HELP! My chicken won't stop attacking the new chickens!

Maybe when you see the new hen getting pecked, run in and break it up loudly. Then the hens will possibly remember you running in and they won't do it again. Not sure because my girls don't fight to the point of blood.

Or maybe put a few heads of cabbage up, distract them and they get a treat.

HELP! My chicken won't stop attacking the new chickens!

Maybe the Australorp thinks she's the top of the pecking order and she doesn't want anyone to replace her spot. Put the new girls in a separate small coop, kind of like a brooder pen but bigger, and then introduce the new girls and your Australorp between a fence. If she tries to fight, let...

We made our nesting boxes out of plywood, but you can use crates or maybe recycle some pallets. Pine shavings are great for coating the floor, mostly because it is really easy to clean away. Hay can also be a treat in the winter so that your chickens can be entertained.

Hens that sit a lot may be ready to lay eggs. The sitting is called the "egg squat". Roos just do what they want, whenever they want. :) In fact, my roo pretty much hates having me near him and will run like the wind to escape. Other people's roos might stay still, but mine is like a...

Looking to buy chickens in SC

A great place to go is to a place called Eggwell Farms. It is located in Welford, and it would be about a 2 hour drive to get there. It would take a long time, but they really care for chickens and there are so many different types of breeds! I got my Blue and Black Ameraucana there and I saw...

:welcome I don't know any websites for showing the breed by age, but there probably are some other threads about that kind of stuff. I understand the challenge of not knowing the breeds, because we had some chickens a while ago and we had NO IDEA what most of them were! :barnie Good luck on...
