My new girls? Time once again to question gender

I locked them out of the prefab coop yesterday and they went into the big coop and rousted on top of the scratch bin. I moved them to the roost and after locking the coop up I removed the prefab coop. Yesterday when I let them out they went straight to the little coop and didn't hardly come...

My new girls? Time once again to question gender

Yes they are growing fast! The oldest and largest of them is pink at the base of the comb and cheeks but she should be around 10 weeks I think looking back at pictures my BRs were pink then as well. I'm leaning towards all pullets but would guess i will know in another couple weeks.

When to move to the big coop

I locked them in there tonight will check on them in a bit as they all immediately flew off the roost. I will try to set an early alarm to open the coop.

When to move to the big coop

I have 3 chicks in a prefab coop inside of the big girls run. For several weeks I have let them out into the run for a couple hours at a time while I supervised. This week they have been able to mingle with the big girls all day every day. The bigs still peck at them but so far no injuries...

My new girls? Time once again to question gender

They are feathering nicely and nothing is screaming roo to me at this point. My next question is the littles are in a small pre fab coop inside the big girls run. The past few days I have been opening the grow out pen and letting the littles spend their days out with the bigs. They are doing...

My new girls? Time once again to question gender

I agree that would be best. I tried but their grow out pen is very shaded so they are very difficult to see and when I let them out with the big girls they aren't still long enough to get a picture. The big girls are still pretty meanto the littles.

My new girls? Time once again to question gender

Ok trying to look at the pictures now that it is posted I believe top 2 are the youngest and an OE. Next 2 are the middle age wise and the BCM and the next 3 are the oldest OE then they all just repeat.

My new girls? Time once again to question gender

I was given 3 chicks. 2 OEs and 1 BCM. They very in age from 5or 6weeks to 7 or 8 weeks. Hoping for 3 pullets but what do you think? I dunno what happened it looks like picture files might have duplicated hopefully you can make heads and tails of it! Should be a body shot and face shot of each...

    Niederrheiner Thread! All Colors!

Ok. The breeder I got the nieders from was bragging about their laying but of my pullets that are laying they seem to be by far the most infrequent. I get about an egg a day from my SLW and my Brahma and my FBCM lays 2 days in a row takes off the third day then lays the next two etc...

    Niederrheiner Thread! All Colors!

I'm in eastern Washington my girls started to lay on Christmas! I am supplementing light this year to hopefully get my pullets laying before spring. I just have a 40watt bulb on a timer come on at 3am goes off at noon. I am also feeding cayenne pepper which I dunno off coincidence or not but...

    Niederrheiner Thread! All Colors!

I had a mystery egg Saturday and now today I have 2 niederrheiner eggs! The mystery of who laid them is over as I caught one in the process and the eggs are identical. I'm wondering what you guys find to be the average production for these guys. Seems like a long time between eggs, Saturday...

What age do barred rocks generally start laying?

My barred rocks are 18 weeks and 2 have no comb development and 2 do. The two that do are visibly wider than the other two girls and I'm just watching for them to start squatting. They are becoming very interested in the nesting boxes and 3 of my other breeds just started laying and they are...

    New hens

Just an update. My marans has consistently laid since Christmas day but today I had a 2nd mystery egg which turns out came from the SLW that I got a month ago! She has been squatting a couple days. The Brahma that I acquired along with her has still not laid though she also doesn't seem to...

Not a great picture but that one of my girls in the top left of the picture. Love my gentle giants though my Brahma makes them look small!
