Just tractor and supply Dumor pellets. And garden scraps.
I’m starting to wonder if it’s our well water though. I started one of the electrolyte additives from tractor and supply and that seemed to help. But when I stopped it they started up again.
Ok so my chickens are about 6 mos old and since I’ve been giving them oyster shells and grit, they devour it it with in a day or two. I have 22 hens and have had chickens over a decade. I’ve never seen this before. I put out a pound or two each and it’s gone the next day. Anyone have an idea?
So I have 14 quail with 2 males and 12 females. I know the ratio is off by one but took a chance because I saw conflicting info on this. Now one of my males is in solitary with an eye missing and a couple generous head wounds. Is it really the other male attacking him or could it be some another...
So I decided I would try the deep litter method this year since I got a new coop and flock.
Well, It's not going that well. I have TSC pine shavings and they don't want to break down AT ALL! I've had them in there since April and I add Sweet PDZ to it for ammonia control. Well, that's not...
I'll try the treats tonight. I think the other birds may be part of the problem. The older ones won't get on the roost yet and sleep near the door. I put a box there last night hoping to get them on the roost but of course they just squeezed behind it. Have to find a bigger box. Haha.
Hey guys, can anyone help me please? I have 7 7 week old chicks and 5 5 week olds. I had them in separate brooders because i didn't have enough room. I put the older ones in the coop a couple weeks ago and kept them in there for a week and when I let them out they went back in at night like...

I have construction sand in my run and I've found it difficult to sift the poo out every day simply because it's hard to see. It gets stamped down pretty quick and dries out. I think once a week is enough.
Ok, so sounds like I was right, I'm impatient. :)
I do like the idea of a smaller practice roost. I had one in the brooder and they did take to it. Funny.
Hello,
Can someone help me out here? My chicks are about 6 weeks now and they have been in the coop for about a week and a half. But they are still sleeping on the floor. I thought they would roost by now. My last new set of chicks did. Am I just being impatient? Or, should I be discouraging...
It's great you got over you fear. That's not always an easy thing. But baby chicks?? Yea, it's hard not to fall in love. That's what happened to my husband and daughter. They thought I was nuts when I got my first flock in PA. But as we went thorough the process. they were hooked. Since we moved...
Yup, I'm from Pittsburgh. Just North in Butler county. Mt Airy is very similar. Columbia isn't too bad. But I'm sure your glad to be out of an apartment. How do you like the chickens so far?
Does anyone know if I should be worried about snakes here in Mt Airy? I'm new here and just got my first flock started.
I know there are fox and coons and soooo many hawks so I have chicken wire on the top of my coop and hardware cloth around the bottom about two feet up from the ground.
Think...
