MARYLAND THREAD!

Hello,

We are just outside of Annapolis, in Arnold. We recently started our backyard flock and ended up with two boys. Now we are down to 2 barred rocks (3 month old) and 2 silkies (2 month old). We’d like to get two more girls to add to the flock. Don’t want to do the whole brooder thing again. The birds will be in a coop, with supervised free ranging as well. My three kids are learning how to care for poultry and are doing great. Let me know if you’re in the area and have something. Thanks!

Hello, I am trying to hatch 6 eggs. This is my first attempt at hatching. I have had several requests for the chicks, but if they don’t pan out and the eggs do hatch, then I will let you know. They should hatch by Sunday. Am in the Baltimore area.

Hey guys, can anyone help me please? I have 7 7 week old chicks and 5 5 week olds. I had them in separate brooders because i didn't have enough room. I put the older ones in the coop a couple weeks ago and kept them in there for a week and when I let them out they went back in at night like clockwork. It was so easy.
Then I did the same a couple weeks later with the younger ones and they refuse to go into the coop from the run at bedtime. I kept them in a couple more days but am still having trouble. Anyone have a good ideas?

Are they all in the same coop together? If they are, maybe the older ones are keeping the youngsters out. If the younger babies are in their own, try offering a treat inside at night. It won't take them long to figure out food!
I'll try the treats tonight. I think the other birds may be part of the problem. The older ones won't get on the roost yet and sleep near the door. I put a box there last night hoping to get them on the roost but of course they just squeezed behind it. Have to find a bigger box. Haha.

Anyone know of a place to have chickens processed in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area? I have been googling and maybe I'm not searching for the right thing. I also tried to do it myself but I find the process to be to emotional.

Try The Locker in Mount Airy. Not sure if they process chickens but they do beef and can probably give you a referral.
