I can't believe how easy it was!! What you're seeing here are my nine week old chicks (mostly all unexpected roosters!) mixed in with my four week old chicks, including two silkies!! You (almost) can't tell who is from which flock!! Not to mention, OMG those Silkies are roosting high up!! If you look closely, you can see the buff one who is the tiniest chick ever is completely determined to make it to the top of the heap too!

I brought the older chicks out to the coop when they were five weeks old, and then the babies came out last week in a new brooder when they were three weeks old so they could all get to know one another from the safety of their own spaces. I planned on keeping them separated for another week until the babies got bigger, but this afternoon was so hot out there I decided to let them all roam together in the run. When I came out tonight to put the babies back into their brooder, they were all happily starting to roost together so I let them be! I didn't even need to show them how it was done like I did with the first crew!

Fingers crossed things are this harmonious in the morning!

I was so nervous walking in there this morning...but all was well! They had divided back into their small groups but no one looked stressed or picked on and there weren't piles of feathers anywhere, so I feel pretty good! They were even drinking and eating alongside one another using the same feeders (even though I had all of their feeders accessible to them!)

So cute!!! Love your polish! and those silkies are looking cute too!!!!
Thanks...I've got one just like your white crested black, but I can't shake this feeling it's a boy. My other one is a splash and I think is the opposite sex, whichever way that turns out, hahaha! They're so much fun....my favourite breed!

One of mine too!!! I SO WANTED to find a wc blue, but no luck. LOVE your coop!!!
Thanks...I'm really proud of the work I've done on my coop. I was hoping to find buff laced and silver laced but these two were the only polish chicks there at the store (I unexpectedly saw them in a hardware store) so I snagged them both. The white splash one is really standoffish but the wcb loves attention. I know, total roo. :gigI adore them both!

There were all kinds available from Ideal if you're still looking (and they do small minimums), but I wasn't willing to take the straight run risk again!!

Hey guys, can anyone help me please? I have 7 7 week old chicks and 5 5 week olds. I had them in separate brooders because i didn't have enough room. I put the older ones in the coop a couple weeks ago and kept them in there for a week and when I let them out they went back in at night like clockwork. It was so easy.
Then I did the same a couple weeks later with the younger ones and they refuse to go into the coop from the run at bedtime. I kept them in a couple more days but am still having trouble. Anyone have a good ideas?

Awe wouldn’t it be great if they all listened!!! You may have to carry them into the coop and close them in for the night so they get the idea. We kept ours in the coop for a few days/ nights so the knew where they lived.
