One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Yeah, For the first week I called them the 2 bright chicks, the brownish one, the rooster(this one was sick and died), and the pretty one. This guy is the pretty one. Lots of snow white fluff on the chest. Beautiful. Hopefully he feathers out the way is fluff is.

Here's a much better picture of the comb. Sorry for the blur, he would not hold still!

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Awesome. Another sign of a roo that I'm seeing is that this one is developing a little slower. Shortest tail feathers of the bunch!

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

I'll be keeping it regardless. If these are all female, I'll get another roo and 2 more hens, and when the hens are of age to enter a flock, the two hens will go to my girlfriends flock, and the rooster will stay here

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Yep, he or she is always trying to be the most adorable out of the bunch! The comb is bigger and redder today!

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Also, as far as odd behavior goes, this is the one in question on the first day of being in a cage, instead of a clear Rubbermaid container:

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

You got it. So I guess my best bet is to hold off on buying a baby roo until I'm sure this one isn't a roo. It was sexed and sold as a female but I'm sure mistakes can be made at the hatchery there. Thanks everyone for confirming that I'm not crazy. For now I'll have to play the waiting game...

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

What I mean is this one spars differently, it jumps and leans back and kicks when it spars as opposed to the others who get in each others faces and peck/chest bump. It's also always the first one to my hand. I wish I could get it on video for you but they don't spar very often at all and when...

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Dang it guys! I'm gonna bring this bird to a psychic if I have to! I want it to be a little roo so bad! lol In all seriousness, thanks a lot for the advice, I'm glad to know I'm not being delusional here.

All the other hens have an identical comb. All 4 of the roosters have a red obvious comb

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Would it mean anything if when this one is running, jumping, and playing with the others, it jumps and kicks both legs forward? It's the only one that does that, the others jump at each other face first. I'l try and get it on video in slomo sometime. It's legs are about the same size as the...

8 week old chick with bad leg attacked by others

I'll ask for one. The other 4 males have larger redder combs, whereas Critter's comb has returned to normal color and is small. at the age they're at it's obvious who the roosters are. I'll still ask though

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Is it just the comb or are there other signs to look for?

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Sure hope so. I really dont have room for more than 12 hens, and assuming these are all female I'd have 12, but I really want to have a rooster to maintain the flock and I don't want him to have to be raised alone. My rooster that I got with these ones was sick and died so if this one happens to...

8 week old chick with bad leg attacked by others

Critter gets daily exercise. Chicken fetch, my girlfriend calls it. She takes Critter into the yard, and throws her. Critter uses her wings to stabilize and land softly, then runs right back for more. Critter loves it. Critter will also follow her around the pasture for exercise. I think the...

8 week old chick with bad leg attacked by others

Well folks, a few weeks have passed since this was posted, and "Critter" is in fact a female. My girlfriend had 4 males and 6 females. They're getting easy to tell now. Critter still has a slight limp but is improving slowly, and can now walk and run. She's isolated mot of the day except for...

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Ok. Yeah the comb is much redder and twice the size of all the others. My only other suspicion would be that it's not a RIR. The comb stands about 1/4" tall, which is hard to see in the pictures due to all the fluff blocking the bottom half of it, and if I touch it I can wiggle it back and...

One of my RIR chicks has a much larger comb than the other, does this mean it's a roo?

Hey there, I bought 4 day old rir females and a male from a callahans general store near me. Unfortunately the roo died at 8 days old, from what apparently was salmonella pollorum, as he went through every single symptom. However, one of my "females" is colored much whiter than the others and...

No reason, she just likes pullets more. I think there's a few cockerals in the bunch. Hopefully not, because there wouldn't be enough hens for them.
