Can someone please tell me what kind of geese these are?

These are the group of adults that the goslings came from. The goslings still have down but are starting to get gray feathers.

    mandarin ducks very skiddish

My daughter has been begging me for a "house duck." I am hoping when my mandarins hatch a clutch this week that I can get a baby and have it imprint on her.

Why would my male golden pheasant be crouching in the back of the cage vs sitting on his perch tonight?

You may be right. The female mandarin duck is small but cranky. All seems well now thankfully

Why would my male golden pheasant be crouching in the back of the cage vs sitting on his perch tonight?

Usually, I just scoop them off of the perch and guide them into the little building to be double secured during the night...

Why would my male golden pheasant be crouching in the back of the cage vs sitting on his perch tonight?

He is in with a female and 2 mandarin ducks. They usually have a routine. The ducks go in the house to their cubby on their own... the pheasants usually are side by side on the perch in the evening. Tonight, the female went in without him and he was sitting in the back of the pen hiding in an...

Why would my male golden pheasant be crouching in the back of the cage vs sitting on his perch tonight?

I am probably worried over nothing, but I have never seen him not go up to his perch in the evening ... then I scoop him up and lock him inside the building in the pen.

I actually love Emus too. I adopted an older one in need of a home years ago. Her name was "Emuly" ...lol To be honest, I wouldn't mind another. ;)

my new boy and his new enclosure...

Peas like to belong to a bevy. I would keep a pair at the minimum. I have 2 males and 3 females that stay together all the time.

Show pics of your peahen nesting boxes

That is so cute. My white peahen also adopts baby chicks. I came out one night to close the coop and everyone had gone inside except for her. She stayed outside on the silkie chicks, keeping them warm until I corralled everyone into the coop. It was heart warming.

    Mandarin and wood duck question

I haven't had any in years, but I was recently inspired to get some more this fall. I am happy that yours started laying! It was the most exciting day ever, when I saw the babies parachuting down from the nest box with their parents. Mandarins are awesome parents to their young. Soooo cute to watch!

Mandarin Duck thread ( for posting pictures and discussing)

Oh how I miss my mandarins. I had some years ago, but they were absolute houdinis and I have no idea where they would escape from. All I can think looking back is that maybe through the vents in the coop? I have since put netting to fill the holes... But, at the time I finally just gave the...
