The hens will have darker legs and the roos brighter. That's 1 way to tell them apart. Another way being the roos have an extra barring gene so they'll have more white feathering.
I can't! I counted days from when she first started sitting. That would be a June 23 hatch day. She didn't stay on them though should I count from when she hasn't left them?
First experience with a broody here. I have a hen who has been off and on sitting for about 2 weeks. The last 4 days she hasn't left her eggs. I Jay checked 2 eggs. 1 was 3/4 the way while the other I could still see a yolk and lots of white area. I only checked 2 bc I didn't want to bother...
They came from Hoover's. Anyone heard of that hatchery having "happy accidents" lol I don't care if they're mixed I just hate the waiting game for mystery chicks to feather out. I hope one day my white silkie and mille fleur duccle have some chicks that seems like it'd be a pretty bird. Anyone...
I don't have a pic but the chick did have a lot of fuzz on it's feet and legs way more than other feather footed chicks. It was really light colored it was very close to the color of my white polish I got at the same time.
No I have some of those and mine never had spots this really just the black wing tips. I would love another one though! I'm down to 1 older pair and 2 babies in this mix thanks to critter attacks :he oh and I got porcelain d'uccles! I highly recommend the crested polish mix and bantam mix I...
I forgot to add I use Apple cider vinegar with mother in their water and after what I thought was a wry neck loss I've been adding raw honey for vitamins. Hoping I don't lose anymore. Any other ideas I should be doing?
I don't keep the light on them during the day. We had temps in the 90s with heat index over 100 I was afraid they would be way too hot. I checked again, I made tbd chick drink again then it walked away pretty good. I'm worried it was something contagious after already losing the 1 chick being...
I recently ordered some chicks. Lost 4 the first night 1 within a week to what I was told was wry neck, only lived 5 days after becoming weak. Now I have another I noticed was weak picked it up to the waterer. While in my hand it pooped what appeared to be plain water that was really hot ...
Do any of y'all have a rainbow of eggs? I'd love to see pics :love I have some chickens on my wish list, but decided to spread out getting them so I have something to look forward to! I already have the first on my list Mille fleur d'uccle down to 1 pair now do to dog and opossum...
I was so hoping for an olive egger! Are there any signs they're Oliver eggers before they lay? I was looking at the chick in the middle it has legs that look really dark green. I wish I could share a pic of my new layer that laid that pretty tinted egg. She was a free range chicken and when I...
I'm sorry I forgot to add I was asking about my RIR in those pictures. I did some reading on the barred rocks and the difference in color for sexing. I have 3 out of 4 roos in my barred rocks ;(
Here's a couple pix. The 1 is very much a cockerel then one clearly a pullet. They're a few in between I'm not sure. The first pic is the cockerel and one in unsure about side by side for comparison. 2nd another I'm not sure. 3rd is what I think is pullet.
I was afraid of that and he's my only 1. The only aggression I've seen so far is when they're free ranging a few of them will not really fight, but have a stand off/ staring competition with feathers all puffed out. Am i right to assume the fights will get worse they're about 9 weeks old...
