    Sick or wounded chicken

I have a hen and rooster that have been in a pen with each other eating grower pellet, they are about 6 months old. Yesterday I saw the rooster was kind of drawn up. Like he was extending his neck out and he was kind of hunched over and his wings were almost dragging the ground. Brought him in...

Horse vs. Dog in predator prevention

You know, I think the one things that everyone is missing is LGD will protect livestock, chickens are not livestock. You will more times than not find a dog that will eventually kill some chickens. My family has ran GP for years with their sheep and they have often drifted over into the...

    So now I know

I have lost 3 birds in 4 days and did not know what was doing it. The birds were just disappearing with no sign. So I set traps around my horse barn for fox and this morning watched two coyotes stalking my Arecaunas. Tomorrow morning I will be ready with my rifle.

New chick and not sure what it is

Country road, this is the earliest pic I have of him. There is a guy in the town next to me that just got a big shipment of chicks and I happen to hear about him and went and bought some new chicks.

Silkie chicks with swollen eyes? Mille Fleur hen with similar symptoms

I had this same thing about 3 weeks ago. If untreated they will die, I found out the hard way. But when I started treatment it worked great. I used the teramycin in all the waterers and gave 1cc injections of Tylan 50 for 4 days. I was injecting grown chickens so if you have smaller birds I...

    Antibiotic question

I have recently treated two of my hens for some ailment. I still don't know what it was but Tylan 50 and Teramycin cleared it up. I treated them for four days. I don't expect them to lay for another 3-4 weeks, but is there any kind of risk with eating the eggs? I went ahead and left the...

    I have an eye question

Update I don't think there was a respitory problem, but I don't really know what signs to look for. When I think respitory I think they would be coughing or sneezing and they did none of that. BUT... I did start the hens on Tylan 50 for three days and added Teramycin to all of the waterers and...

    I have an eye question

I am new to the board, so hello! I have about 18 chickens of various breeds and they have a coop in my barn but have free range to come and go as they wish. I recently bought a few chickens from an auction and now a few of my birds have eye issues. The best way to describe it is, it starts out...
