Ya, it was on our land. I just opened the trap where it was. I had stumbled across her den a few days ago. So I know where they are. As for rabies, I guess I wasn't thinking about that. Though I haven't heard much of rabies around here, ever. As for them wanting my chickens, eggs and feed, I...
Thank you. We feel good about it. I see no reason why we can't coexist. We just need to take resAfter she'd moved her kittens or kits (I just looked that up, lol) we moved the trap, leveled the ground and reset the trap. I found another kit underneath, in the dirt. It had also died. Though it's...
Well, I expect some folks would say we are not cut out for farming... We let her go. She came back and got the babies. As long as my coop and run are secure, she (as well as any other local predator) will not be a threat. Besides, it fits with my overall philosophy of living more harmoniously...
So, there's a private animal removal service that says on their website they service the area, but when i called they said we are outside of their area. Though they would offer coaching over the phone for $150. Really!? That sounds rediculous. Like $150 to tell me how to kill it with car exhaust...
Well I don't have access to a gun, and I also think that they spray when shot. I'm not enthused about dispatching it at all. And I'd definitely prefer to do it in the least painful and traumatic way possible. I thought about wrapping a garbage bag around the trap and running a hose from exhaust...
I never thought of relocating animals in those terms. I guess it kind of makes sense. Though, I think I would want to do some research. Also, there may be a huge difference in population density between where you're at and where we are. Thanks for that info though. Very good information to consider.
We are in rural Utah. Our fish and game have told us we are on our own, unless it's a dangerous predator, like a cougar, wolf or bear or an endangered species. We found an injured peregrine falcon a couple years ago, and it took almost a month for them to come get it. I think we had healed it by...
It was my brothers boyfriend, and A)he isn't around and B) my brother said NO MORE SKUNKS IN HIS CAR. Lol. And I highly.doubt I'll find anyone else to help relocate it. Nobody wants to haul a skunk around. I'm considering just letting her out, I think I know where her den is. It's on the...
As I said, we can not afford a vet. The wing tip dried up and came off. And the rest of the wing is healing up well. Still no sign of infection and it looks pretty good. We are just being diligent about keeping it clean and putting neosporin on it. So far, so good.
Hi everybody. So, here an interesting story/dilemma. We posted about a severe wing injury to one of our ducks a couple weeks ago. She is healing up good. We caught the culprit within a couple days. It was a medium sized male skunk. We were trying to figure the best way to dispatch of him, when a...
As for the OP @skyjoshin What have you been putting on the wound?
Antibiotics may be a good idea, but since this is a duck, let me find someone more knowledgeable what type of medications can be used.
@casportpony
Likely the wing will dry up and fall off, barring infection. So for now, I...
We will look for blue kote. Thanks!
We rinsed it really well with water in the initial cleanup. There shouldn't be much dirt in there at all. We soaked it today with a warm, wet washcloth before rinsing again with iodine. We didn't try to pull off any dead flesh. I also applied a coat of...
Hi all. Well, we caught a skunk in a live trap the other day. Not much fun, but that's a story for.another day. In the days and weeks leading up to his capture, we lost six chickens (our flock is pretty young, 4-6 weeks are the oldest) then, after we taught them to roost in the boxes, the only...
For feed and for... um, food? Are we to take it that they will be for people food? I mean, I guess maybe I've heard of folks eating mealworms...
Meh, I'm good. Just for the chickens. Lol.
I found a great many mealworms buried in the ground/droppings in our old coop. I was wondering about just...
Oh, wow. Ya, it's definitely the crop. So, it HAD almost vanished this morning. I didn't look closely, because we were moving things. And then when i went to look, it was back, but seemed a bit smaller. Lol. Well, I'm certainly glad I joined the community here and asked. That could've been bad...
Well, today was busy. We were moving some of the babies around and building a portable coop for my mom's place. I'll see if I can get a good picture of it. It's about the size of a grape and is fairly squishy. It moves around under the skin. We don't have any antibiotics here... It looks like it...
Hi everyone. We just started our chicken adventures. We got several feather footed bantams and a few other assorted breeds. My concern is that my daughter had her ferret out playing and it grabbed one of the chicks. We couldn't see any injuries at the time. The ferret is the most mild mannered...
