Well our vet tech friend ended up being able to come tonight. He says that what actually happened is we only banded one testicle and it became obvious after the banded one shrunk down. Ugh! I kept checking... and really thought u had both. He gave me a really hard time for not being able to...
Yes, I believe what I’m feeling is the testicles. Someone asked if it’s just swelling that I’m feeling.... maybe. But I’m pretty sure it’s actually the testicles that have come out of the band. Since I’m new to this, I’m really not sure.
Thank you for asking about pix. I actually took some but...
I believe they’re for goats. I bought them new at the co-op in town. They’re like geeen Cheerios. They don’t say anything about a certain animal. It just says castrating bands.
They do do have a note not to use on cattle over 250lbs. I thought that meant for smaller livestock but maybe I...
I really hope someone can help! I don’t know where else to ask!
We tried to band our male goat but it’s gone all wrong and I don’t know what to do. This is my first experience with banding.
He’s 5 months old and we kept waiting and waiting because his testicles are very small. But finally we...
Well I just tried adding the wry neck chick in with one other.... and my stargazer is bullying the healthy one. She is going after her eyes and hangs off her eyelids. I guess I will have to separate them again.
I can’t imagine why this chick is so vicious.... especially after all the hand...
Yes, it is alone because the others pick on it terribly when it’s in the brooder. It also keeps turning over in the water dish if it’s with the others. I read that chicks with wry neck should be separated from the group, but close enough to be able to hear the others, so the incubator is right...
Yes, we have been massaging it’s neck some each day. It doesn’t seem to mind the massages at all.
This morning it has started peeping non-stop though. Any ideas why?
It’s been in the incubator at 100F so I know it isn’t cold and it’s still eating and drinking. It poops— looks just like...
The little chick with wry neck was doing FANTASTIC it’s first day from the incubator to the brooder. It was in with the other 5 chicks and I had to paint its nails to be able to tell it from the others.
The following day was not a good day though. It really struggled with its neck and kept...
Thank you for the advice! The chick has dried up since being cleaned and looks a lot better. And I’ll continue doing a small drop every few hours.
It’s little neck is pitiful but seems to be doing a tiny bit better. It can stand up for a little bit now. I’ll send pix soon! And definitely update...
I think it is still some egg gunk. I’ll try the q-tip and warm water idea.
How did you administer the nutri-drench? The back says 1ml for 3lbs but the chicks are no where close to 3lbs. It did take a tiny bit off my finger tip. Is it best just to do a drop every few hours?
Yes, if she begins to suffer I will absolutely make the difficult decision to cull.... but right now she seems very content. Cheeping happily, she just doesn’t sit right. I’m willing to try the drops and see if she improves.
Thanks!! I’ll get the nutri drench if the have it! I really appreciate the advice
Yes, I’m pretty sure it’s crook neck. It seems to have absorbed fine but just can’t keep its head up. I did tuck it into a cup so it’s not struggling so hard though. Thanks
I have been incubating 8 Chicken eggs. One didn’t make it because it tried to hatch at day 19 and wasn’t ready, but the rest waited full term. So far I have 4 babies! :wee
My only problem is my most recent seems to have crook neck :barnie
What do I do?!?
It’s still soaking wet because it can’t...
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :bow
