I'm a hobby farmer from British Columbia, although admittedly my parents do most of the work cause I'm a bit of a germaphobe. I live with my Mom and Dad and a back yard full of fowls near the forest, geese, ducks, muscovies, and many chickens, all free range.
I was out for a month to do house...
My Muscovy hen, Biscuit, seems to have swelling around her vent and in her gut. This is in correlation with the mating season. The drakes (who are not muscovies and are a lot faster than her) have been awful to her and it’s gotten to the point where I’m questioning making a roast duck dinner...
My ducks hatched a bunch of eggs a couple days ago and ended up with 4 little chicks, but last night one of the chicks got stuck under the coop and died of hypothermia but by some miracle, I managed to revive him using cpr.
He was doing so well after this, they had a bit of a tremor but after a...
I'm looking to buy some quail/button quail eggs but most stores I'm finding sell more than 12 eggs and my mom doesn't want any more than 5 quail. Can anyone recommend any stores or breeders in Canada, preferably in BC or at least ship to BC. I'd love to get true button quail but I've heard the...
I've raised baby silkies twice now and both times I've had to deal with pasty butt. Their butts are so fluffy that they accumulate poop until it blocks their vents and I have to bathe them regularly or trim their butt feathers which is difficult on a small bird and I always worry about cutting...
They died over night. I think it could have been an infection because of how the problem kept getting rapidly worse and I don't think whatever was in her throat was getting bigger, plus she was fully capable of getting air in and out of her lungs but for some reason she was suffocating.
Does anyone know what's wrong with her? She's so lethargic and I don't think she's getting enough oxygen. Her chirps are scratchy and shrill when she does get knocked out of her gasping, dizzy state, usually only ever because she got scared or excited.
My 3 day old chick has a bald spot on their crop. I've noticed that their crop looked like it was tilted a little to the right a few days ago and now it's balding, does anyone knows why this is?
I was a little worried at first because the last time I saw a slight bump on the side of a baby...
The two silkie parents are young (1-2 years old) and healthy from what I can tell and other than huckleberries, corn, worms/other grubs and raspberries they don't eat anything out of the ordinary, just regular chicken feed (16% layer pellets). I think what the problem that I didn't really think...
