Hi there, I watched your video and it does seem odd . Just a couple questions , is her abdomen distended at all? You said she was not a consistent layer, could she be egg bound, laying internally? What are her droppings like ?
Hopefully someone who has more experience will chime in. I have been...
Well this is day 5 of the fishzole with no change ! :( Any other suggestions? I would hate to have to put him down after all we have been through....Really need some other ideas. There is a thread previous to this regarding everything with the pox and the apparent secondary respiratory issue. I...
Thanks...couldn't get tablets locally, but my pet sore had the powder 250mg. Also contains 75mg praziquantel which is a wormer so don't guess that will hurt. I hope this will clear this up....been dealing with this for 3 weeks or so.......
Thanks all for the response.....Dawg53, you may be right about the sinus canker. I have treated for the upper respiratory with Tylan 50 injectable given orally.....maybe I did not treat for long enough. It did clear the initial upper respiratory infection that I thought was secondary to the pox...
Sorry about your girls blindness...I have a roo who is blind. His is from complications of wet pox in his eyes....However, he eats , drinks ,... and crows..lol. What I have found is that as long as I "show" him his food and water he does fine. Of course he is confined, but I do put him out in the...
I have been having problems with Fowl Pox...see previous thread .

The last post is about the same problem, but it is not getting better and I need to see if any of you more knowledgeable people can help. I am including pictures :
As you can see the eye is still extremely...
Update and question------------Well most of the flock are doing well and back to normal. All but two had dry pox only and I just let it run it"s course. However, the roo and one silkie hen have / had wet pox. I have searched and read everything that I could find on the subject, but nothing...
Found some info...apparently .1cc/ml per pound.....by injection or orally. Have seen others say ,25 cc for bantam. I gave .2 ml orally as he is about 2 lbs.
Now for boric acid eye baths for the ones that still have eyes stuck shut and then new splint for Guinea girl..................
BTW.....how much Tylan do I give? He probably only weighs 1 1/2 -2 lbs,,,,,,,,,,,,,My pharmacy gave me a couple of insulin syringes marked in ml (instead of units)
Thanks so much for the help! I also bought some vet rx....
Sorry about your goose.....it is so hard to see our animals suffering..:(
Thank-you for your reply! This bantam roo is terribly thin and does not really have any breast muscle. Can the tylan be given in the thigh or under the skin?I have never had to do this in 20 some years of bird keeping....so first time for everything. :(
We have had a lot of rain and bad...
Hi all, I have been dealing with dry pox and most birds recovering nicely. have a few with eye problems and one silkie roo in particular who is really sick. He has had the pox like the others, but got it in both eyes and now is not eating , drinking , is smelly and in general feeling tough. I...
I hope you have been able to help your girl or at least been keeping the membrane moist. I had this happen with a first time layer and with no avian vets nearby, I had to make a decision. I sterilized a razor blade and made a inch long incision. I carefully broke and extracted all of the shell...
This morning when I let my chickens out, one of my 10 week old bantam chicks was dead...He was alive and fine last night. Everyone else is fine. They are out in a pen during the day and are closed in a fair sized house at night...not overcrowded, plenty food and water both in and out. The only...
I have a silkie banty with the same problem. Feathers on he butt stay damp and really stinky all the time. She is fine otherwise. She has had this for most of her life. She is about a year old. I'm not sure if this stated when she started to lay, but she has had it for around 6 mos. It is just a...
Skya328 I am so sorry about your little banty. Wish I knew more...where I live there is no avian vet, so I just have to go by books and what I can find online. Problem is so many diseases have similar symptoms. I try whatever makes sense to me. I have never heard of bleach in the water, only...
I apologize, It is The Chicken Health Handbook, by Gail Damerow , has all kinds of info, plus diagnostic guides and disease descriptions. Sounds like the book Josh 44 mentions is a similar book. If you are going to raise chickens I would definitly pick up one or the other! Good luck and keep us...
My best guess is infectious bronchitis infectious or laryngotracheitis. Both are very contagious. Give electrolytes in drinking water, keep warm and well fed.Watch for secondary infection such as air sac disease. Survivors will be immune but become carriers. Very common disease. Other...
Have you looked up chronic respiratory disease? Gail Dammerows Chicken Health Handbook-good go to guide if you have or can get a copy. Are there any other symptoms, such as diarrhea, etc.? Vitamin A deficiency is uncommon unless you make your own feed. Commercial feeds should have complete...
I uploaded images , but can't find how to get them here! OK here we go
They had baths this morn. You can see that one looks bloody, I cleaned her again and put a little antibiotic ointment on her. You can also see how they are losing feathers on their necks.
