Serious eye problem...and sinus??? Need Help Please !

I have been having problems with Fowl Pox...see previous thread .

As you can see the eye is still extremely swollen and in this last picture you can see a little piece left of the cheesy mass that came out of his eye. There is a clear liquid now that is draining. He is eating, drinking ,grooming and crowing, however he is blind in his "good" eye and of course this eye. All of the cheesy stuff came out except for that bit in the corner.
I read in a post on another forum Chicken with swollen eye - graphic pictures - Homesteading Today about that mass growing in the sinuses and the stuff in the picture looks like what I have been dealing with, but some of the pics have been removed and I would need to know a little more before I would want to try surgery. A vet is not an option..
Please, if any of you have dealt with anything similar or have any suggestions that might help , please reply. I am at my wits end here!

This might be a longshot, but I think you might be dealing with possibly one or two things. The sinus issue might not be wet fowl pox. It could be sinus canker and could possibly infect the eye as well. However, the eye problem could be a result of a respiratory problem too.
If it's in fact sinus canker, metronidazole 250mg tablets given orally to your roo once a day for 5 days will treat canker. Metronidazole can be purchased online as "Fishzole."
If it's a respiratory disease, I recommend treating him with tylan 50 injectable. Give him 1/4cc orally once a day for 5-7 days, no more than 7 days.
If the eye doesnt clear up after using the tylan, 1/4cc liquid amoxicillin once a day for 5 days may work or perhaps penicillin G procaine injections may be required.

im no expert, but what about "eye worms"?

i found a video on youtube and the swelling looks similar, also, maybe the infection from the eye has moved towards the sinuses.

You can actually see eyeworm in the birds eye if he had eyeworm. Also, the bird would be scratching his eye incessantly.

I too think it may be more than the pox. I had pox in my silkie's eye and it swelled but did not have any pus or yellow drainage or stuff. It was just swollen and somewhat crusty and finally did go down. That looks different.

Thanks all for the response.....Dawg53, you may be right about the sinus canker. I have treated for the upper respiratory with Tylan 50 injectable given orally.....maybe I did not treat for long enough. It did clear the initial upper respiratory infection that I thought was secondary to the pox. No one else has had any respiratory issues. I had other birds that had dry pox on the eye lids that swelled and crusted over but this looked just like the wet pox that they get in there mouth. It was hard and cheesy and when it finally all came out it was a solid sheet.
I have also treated for sinus infection per these instructions http://fowlfacts.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=2008&thread=1819. And....we just finished a week of Sulmet. I have read on here of others having this cheesy eye stuff https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/710115/hugely-swollen-eye/10 but don't know what it was or the outcome. How much do you give of the fishzole? This is a less than 2 pounds Bantam roo.

Fishzole, aka metronidazole is one 250mg tablet once a day x 5 days.

Thanks...couldn't get tablets locally, but my pet sore had the powder 250mg. Also contains 75mg praziquantel which is a wormer so don't guess that will hurt. I hope this will clear this up....been dealing with this for 3 weeks or so.......

Well this is day 5 of the fishzole with no change ! Any other suggestions? I would hate to have to put him down after all we have been through....Really need some other ideas. There is a thread previous to this regarding everything with the pox and the apparent secondary respiratory issue. I hope there is someone with some more knowledge about this kind of thing. I have searched and searched but to no avail......Thanks
