One B.O. became a rooster so we found a nice farm for him to live on.
We got a RIR pullet to replace him...and ended up with ANOTHER rooster!
He's a nice boy, but so henpecked that...

Someone asked how many eggs their Javas lay. I have two Mottled Javas, each about a year and a half old. They are both smart, active, aggressive (in food gathering and pecking order- not to people) and have strong personalities and they are my worst layers. At best, they lay 3 eggs a week...
I guess, deep down, I knew the answer. But darn it THIS was the chicken I got to replace my BO rooster! Arg. Grumble. He's a nice boy, I guess he can stay as long as he doesn't crow.

I'm 95% sure this is a roo, but I don't have any other RIR's to compare him to. He's about 22 weeks old and not yet crowing or laying. Am I crazy to hold out any hope he might be a she?
Thanks! I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed and wait until she/he started laying or crowing.
I'll try to post pictures soon. The feathering looks identical to the other B.O.
