    10 wk roo or pullet?

This is not always true. I did so much research after being sold ameraucanas that were really EE's, but that doesn't mean that some places aren't actually selling real ones from breeders... and hers looks like a real one to me, much more than an EE... but it is a VERY convoluted topic! :)

    10 wk roo or pullet?

Cool! They are so beautiful!! I got some "ameraucanas" from our feed mill, but they seem to be more of the EE or Easter Egger type... If you want some more info on what most consider the "real ameraucanas" (though not everyone feels this way), which to me yours looks like this type... you can...

Is this normal?? Too aggressive or just Top Pullet?

Thanks for the suggestions... I will need to try those if she doesn't continue to come around and settle a bit... They were hand raised and had lots of time with us... so maybe she's testing her independence, lol... I picked her up yesterday and just held her close while I walked around for...

Is this normal?? Too aggressive or just Top Pullet?

Wow! I don't have any egg layers yet, and probably won't attempt hatching any for quite awhile... is it always that difficult? God bless you for keeping with it!! I do have some kittens right now however! But just found out the male polydactyls have a few extra finger nails that might need to be...

They are both beauties! :love You say the bottom one is an Ameraucana? Silver?

    10 wk roo or pullet?

I say pullets, but you never know sometimes... there's a lot of comb, etc. on the first one, but it's not too red so I'd say they are both girls... congrats if that's what you are looking for! :celebrate

How to get rid of hawks?

I know that crows can be quite helpful in not only driving them off, but alerting other birds/chickens to when they are around... Crows don't like hawks, so the more you have around the better. We have hundreds in our neighborhood... Not sure that helps you really since "Crow's R Us" just closed...

Is this normal?? Too aggressive or just Top Pullet?

AWE, I just saw that you have some Blue Laced Red Wyandotte's!! We had a little one up until around 6 weeks old or so, and lost her to a predator attack.... We were devastated... She was such a sweetie, and SO BEAUTIFUL!! :hit

Is this normal?? Too aggressive or just Top Pullet?

Well, thank you very much!):love Luckily it's more of an issue with me than the others... she's never really messed with them too much, it more of an overprotective thing I guess... Of course I haven't seen any mating attempts or anything like that... She still lets me hold her and pick...

Can’t get rid of lice infestation on chickens

I'm so sorry to hear you are dealing with this... sounds frustrating!:( I haven't heard of this before... I am very new to chickens, but I'm not surprised it can happen...! Does anyone know if lice or coop mites are very common? Does it pertain to a certain area of the country, certain...

Any of these "hens" look like roosters??

Compared to this girl with also very pointy feathers, but is smaller at the same age, more docile, and I think it has a more hen-like shape....

This is the one I worry about in a better pic:

Any of these "hens" look like roosters??

That has been a concern for me on both of my EE's... Did you mean the 2nd picture of an EE or the actual 2nd EE? It can be hard to tell them apart in those pics.. I worry more about the puffy cheeked one because she's been quite aggressive compared to the others, is bigger, more protective, and...

Any of these "hens" look like roosters??

Yeah, I agree... But like in your case, I've always noticed the RIR hens to have really red combs normally... So I'm hoping it's the same in my case. :)

Is this normal?? Too aggressive or just Top Pullet?

Here she is in all her/his glory... To me, the neck on her compared to my other's seems kinda "cocky"...?

Is this normal?? Too aggressive or just Top Pullet?

My 12-16 week old EE pullet (well, at least I'm 80% sure it's a pullet, lol) has always been the one in charge and is bigger than her sister of the same age... but more and more recently she's becoming more aggressive. I'm wondering if this is normal for the "Top Girl" in the pecking order, or...

    Toxic millipedes here :(

Did not know this!:idunno I live in a very damp climate with lots of leaves in the fall... probably a perfect environment! Did you get a good look? You said your landlord knew about them? Any name or special type that is known for this?

    Raccoons are savage

I agree sometimes it might be the only option, especially with sick animals... it can be a hard balance to live with nature... But it sure is worth it!! :thumbsup
