    Aggressive Female

We have 3 female Coturnix Quails and have had them for about a year. They've been great, but all of a sudden a few weeks ago, 1 of the females started pecking and bullying the other 2. So much so, that we only get a total of 1 egg a day. Why would the 1 female start being so aggressive and...

    Show me your quail pens!!!

It's a small pen, about 4x8. Just big enough for 3 females. How often do you stir? I don't mind tossing in leaves and pine shavings every few days

    Show me your quail pens!!!

It's the bending down to clean out the coop. I sift out the sand with a make shift sifter which works well, but feel if I had more than 3 quails, it would be a bit more work. Thinking of a raised cage with 2 section, 1 with sand and the other on wire. Also thinking about a deep liter method so...

    Show me your quail pens!!!

Curious how many of you built your quail coop/cage as first timer quail owners and then decided later to change it to a better design. Would love to see a before and after picture. I researched Coturnix quail for about a year, finally decided on a floor coop with sand flooring for 3 females...

    Hardwire Cloth

Thank you for the replies/feedback. Will definitely purchase through Amazon now. I've got plenty of time as once I get the wire on, I want to plant some grass and plants inside the cage as well.

    Hardwire Cloth

Is this the right type of hardwire cloth to get? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-2-in-x-4-ft-x-25-ft-19-Gauge-Steel-Hardware-Cloth-308226EB/205960849 I also notice there are 19 gauge and 23 gauge type of wire. Which one should I get? Husband finished the frame, but I need to get the...

    How much cleaning is involved

Thanks Sara. I literally keep going back and forth between keeping them on the ground on sand vs in a wire floored cage. I just feel that it's more natural to keep them on the ground. I can't seem to make up my mind :p

    How much cleaning is involved

I'm getting close to raising just a few Coturnix quail for fun (and a few eggs). I think I'm going to put their pen on the ground on top of dirt, then packed with sand on top of that for them to roam around. My question is if I had 2-3 quail, how much clean up should I be expecting? Once a week...

Substrate Flooring for Outdoor Quail Aviary

I'm looking to get 3-4 quail to start with and currently in the planning stages for my outdoor aviary. I'd like to do a natural setting for them and would like to get an opinion on the type of flooring for them. What would be the easiest to maintain? Should I just put the aviary on dirt and...

    Aviary going up!

Thanks! If I decide to go the sand route for the flooring, how often do you think I'd have to clean that out for just 4-5 quails?

    Aviary going up!

I'm looking to build something similar for a starter to 4 quails that I'd like to raise. What's your planned process for cleaning the bottom? I was thinking I'd do either dirt or sand. If I do a deep level of dirt, then I can dig it out and transfer it to my garden as compost possibly? Thoughts?

    New Member Introduction

Hi All, so excited to join this forum. I live in a suburban setting in Northern California (Silicon Valley) and have always wanted to raise chickens for eggs. After researching and a bit hesitant, I think I'd rather start with a few quails. Now I'm obsessed with getting a few quails. I'm...
