Can I put a few chicks in with a duckling?

My 4&5 day old ducklings are on shavings and also have a blanket with height to climb under or on. I had to bring them in today as it’s not safe with the momma. She gets too stressed when I Come near and tramples on them. I don’t know if I am keeping them or not but for now they are safe and...

Name 3 Things You Did Or Will Do Today

Sally hatched another yesterday. Looks like 4 more but, I may need to go do a head check for egg survival tonight.

Daytime rats eating chicken feed. Not allowed to use rodenticide in my area due to owls, Hawks, coyotes and domestic dogs of course.

I am a neighborhood back yard hens owner. It's been several years and where there is chicken feed there are rats. I can't eliminate the ones that come to my yard. It's took much stress to believe i can. But... time spent out side does deter them some too. I try to rake their yard area weekly...

    They chew through hardware cloth?!?

I am so very sorry. That is such a terrible thing to have happen . This how pit bulls get bad names when owners don't acknowledge they are capable of such things on the loose and not trained properly.

Name 3 Things You Did Or Will Do Today

In Vermont here! It was 83 today, but humid. I cleaned house 🙄 in the early part of day. My husband tended to our back yard hens and ducks. Later I checked in on my duck girl Sally who is nesting. She had one ducking hatched. I also put in my younger chicks and closed in the older hens. It...

Weak hen, her comb is floppy (it’s not usually) and losing color, haven’t seen her eat or drink,

It could be this heat too. Had she been drinking okay and being kept a cool a possible??

    Goodbye Old Girl

Thanks for your share. Its tough loosing hens or any farm animal. I lost two these past two months. They had what seemed peaceful passing. But still hard. It was nice you buried her in the garden. What do most people do with their deceased hens. We have buried a few special ones... but...

    Crazy Red Coloring… any guesses?

My first Rhode Island was a chipmunk looking chick. This one here definitely looks like a Rhode Island Red dominant. Those different colored feathers are very interesting.

1 year old hen passed suddenly

Yeah... I'm sorry. I lost one of my R.I. R.s a few weeks past that way too. Out in the yard one day and dead in the nest that or the next night I think. She was a pretty girl. Now I pray closer attention to them and how they are acting. Even so.... they are small beings and do get health...

    What breed or gender?

It's all trial and error. I guess we all just see what really works for us and our flocks. 🥰
