One duckling hatched around three days ago, But the Mom duck is still sitting and not watching her. Today I found the duckling in the run for the second time, it was cold. I have not had too much lucky with the mother ducks raising the duckling. So I put the duckling in a large tug with heat lamp, food and water. I have been looking to get a few more 3 days old duckling so the little one is not lonely, but have not found any. Would a few chicks be OK to let her have company with?

I have put a lone duckling with week old chicks until the other ducklings hatched. No problems.
Main thing to remember:
Ducklings need shelf liner or something similar instead of shavings. It is safe for the chicks to walk on the shelf liner.
Cut a few strips to use and then cut more to rotate out. It will get messy quickly and will need to be rinsed off and dried to reuse.

I have always put ducklings one day old on shavings with no problem

My 4&5 day old ducklings are on shavings and also have a blanket with height to climb under or on. I had to bring them in today as it’s not safe with the momma. She gets too stressed when I Come near and tramples on them. I don’t know if I am keeping them or not but for now they are safe and content. My granddaughter adopted them.
