1 year old hen passed suddenly

We just found one of our cinnamon queens dead in the coop. Rigor mortise had set in but her head hung. No signs of predator, no obovious injuries, no mites, clean vent. Have no idea what happened. She was just over a year old.

Sorry for your loss. You can do a home necropsy to look at and take pictures of her organs to post here on a new thread, or contact your state vet lab, and send her body in to them for a necropsy. Keep the body cold, not frozen, and take it in or ship it tomorrow am. Here is a list of state vets:

Yeah...
I'm sorry. I lost one of my R.I. R.s a few weeks past that way too. Out in the yard one day and dead in the nest that or the next night I think. She was a pretty girl. Now I pray closer attention to them and how they are acting. Even so.... they are small beings and do get health issues off the back. Especially it seems in this heat. Was she hydrated enough??
