    Molting

I'm new to chickens, and the book that came with them said they'll molt from the neck and then work back. Mine seem to have started near their tails. Are they molting, or is this something else? They're RIRs crossed with white rocks, if that makes any difference. Other than the feathers...

    Yet another pre-fab coop fail

Sorry, we had a crazy week. I have pictures, I just have to figure out how to load them on this forum from my phone, or would it be easier to save them onto my computer first and load them from there. Newbie issues LOL

    Yet another pre-fab coop fail

Precision Pet Products Walk-In Prairie House. I bought it at Tractor Supply. I pieced it back together so I could secure the chickens in, but I don't dare open the door again right now because it will fall apart. When I open it later, and shore it up, I will take pictures and post them. It...

    Yet another pre-fab coop fail

Yes, I know the pre-fab chicken coops are poorly made. But we literally only wanted it to last the autumn so we could have time to build a permanent one at our leisure since we don't have any spare time right now due to trying to get our old home ready to sell. So we bought a pre-fab chicken...

    “Pre” broody behavior?

That's good to know. We're not ready for more yet, but down the road if any of the girls gets broody I might try to take advantage of the free child care instead of raising chicks in a brooder and having to be momma for them. I thought they would only raise chicks that they had hatched, though...

Brooding Barred Rock hen attacking rooster. Why?

Well, I did have one friend who flipped out in the delivery room and started screaming at her husband "YOU DID THIS TO ME," maybe the hen had something similar going through her mind

    “Pre” broody behavior?

Does this actually work? They don't notice that they didn't sit on an egg for 21 days and are happy to just take on a chick as their own?

Hi. I'm in Hunterdon, but I was born and raised in Essex, so all this open space and is very new to me.

Feds: Backyard flocks sicken people in 44 states.

Cats can give you toxoplasmosis if you don't wash your hands after changing the litter box and then go eat lunch. Any animal kept in confinement needs a certain amount of care and the human caretakers need to follow common sense precautions.

    Coop run flooring

I'm also in NJ, in a part of the state with groundwater issues. After a week of rain, with two more predicted, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions for soggy, muddy ground?

    New to forum and chickens

Hi, I just joined. After recently moving to the country we got four red sex link hens earlier this month on a trial basis, and decided we like them enough that we're going to keep them, and probably get more. We're going to eventually build a permanent coop and run, but for now we just...
