Yet another pre-fab coop fail

Yes, I know the pre-fab chicken coops are poorly made. But we literally only wanted it to last the autumn so we could have time to build a permanent one at our leisure since we don't have any spare time right now due to trying to get our old home ready to sell. So we bought a pre-fab chicken coop as a stop gap. It's less than a month old, and in addition to needing to be shored up immediately up buying it (I expected that part) yesterday when I went to open the door to clean out the inside the door fell to pieces.

I knew they were cheaply made pieces of garbage, I just didn't expect them to be THAT bad.

Sorry for your experience. :barnie

My prefab coop works great and has lasted more than year even in the coastal pacific northwest wind and rain. I made extra effort to hand screw everything instead of powering through. And I stained the inside and out.

I did accidentally rip the run door off when I lost my balance and tried to use it to catch myself. And there are some minor flaws. But overall it has served its' purpose VERY well here... Didn't wanna push my luck ordering a second one because SURELY, I just got lucky with no broken parts and such.

Hopefully you will still be able to keep your shooks safe until they get a more permanent coop. :fl

Door fell into pieces? Picture for proof!! And what brand are we talking here? Would be good to know so others can avoid it.

Precision Pet Products Walk-In Prairie House. I bought it at Tractor Supply.

I pieced it back together so I could secure the chickens in, but I don't dare open the door again right now because it will fall apart. When I open it later, and shore it up, I will take pictures and post them. It has tiny little staples holding the slats and frame together, and one cross bar on the back side, but that is only held on with little staples, so when the frame fell apart all the slats came loose. This is not the large walk in door, but the small door on the side of the coop used for cleaning out the roost.

Again, I knew I wasn't getting an heirloom quality piece of craftsmanship, but I certainly didn't expect it to start falling apart, literally, in less than a month.

Maybe you can try to replicate the door. The wood pieces on several pre-fab houses seem to be standard sizes, but at the least, maybe you can cut wood to those sizes if they're not already available like that.

I would contact precision pet. Although prefabs are cheaply made, the door shouldn't do that.
They most likely will send a new door. If they do nothing contact tractor supply.

Sorry, we had a crazy week. I have pictures, I just have to figure out how to load them on this forum from my phone, or would it be easier to save them onto my computer first and load them from there. Newbie issues LOL

I think I figured this out
