Hi everybody, I recently purchased 2 Cochin/Pekin gens and one just went broody! The lady I bought them off never let them go broody, but I let it incubate one egg they had laid which I washed off (I was originally planning to eat it), and I know that without the protective layer it is likely to...
I recently purchased two 12 month old bantam hens with feathered feet. I was wondering what breed they were? One has just gone broody, just a couple of days after I bought it, so I assume they are an especially broody breed.
Hi guys, just to sign off. I fed him (yes, he's a rooster) 3 eye dropper fills of the liquid inside vitamin e capsules a day for 5 days, as well as giving him water in the eye dropper. He didn't get better at all the first 5 days, then fully recovered over says 6 and 7. Rhanks for all your help
I'm allergic too, but the kitten me and Dad rescued din't give me a reaction til it was much older. Maybe u could hope for the best and hope it's the same for u? However, he's much fluffier than my kitten was :) Very cute tho.
I recently hatched some pb sussex and some pb barnevelder chicks from separate breeders. However, I don't know what breed or colour the chicks below are. They are six weeks old.
The ones above are the rooster chicks, and the picture below is of the hen chick.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks:)
Me and my Dad once found a feral kitten when it was 1 week old, and it responded exactly the same way, very tame and cuddly even, so I wouldn't use any personality as an indicator! I don't know about the chickens, our kitten kind of just ignored them when she was introduced a bit. I had mine...
There is a helpful page on BYC that has info about assisted hatching. By the way, I would definitely assist. If the chick has no response, they are most likely very weak or have already passed away in my experience. I can't tell if u did this, but if u just lightly tap on the egg and put it...
Hi guys
I have a gorgeous araucana x girl who I think has wry neck. Her head hangs down completely and is twisted upwards at an angle. I have been using a dropper for 5 days now, feeding her 1 vitamin e liquid capsule a day and some water. She seems to have the energy to twist her head a...
Hi guys,
So I've isolated her and given her some vitamin e supplements and water with an eye dropper. I also gave her a milk lid full of water and vitamin e that if she really needs, she may be able to drink some. She seems to be eating ok. She definitely can't balance properly, she backs...
Hi guys,
So yesterday I purchased some pb araucanas, one was 1/4 sussex. Left them in a smaller sleeping area overnight along with my 3 big sussex chooks, one of whom is a roo. I came out this morning. All the pb araucana were happily grazing in the pen with my sussex, but my crossbred was...
We were just told that the barnevelders were purebred barnevelders and the sussex chicks would be speckled or white. Not a lot of info, since a friend picked up the sussex chicks from a mailbox, so we did not get any extra info. I saw pictures of the adult barnevelders from that breeder, and...
Hi all,
I recently purchased 12 Barnevelder eggs from a friend, and put them in with 29 Sussex eggs, which were supposedly white (which I assume means coronation) or speckled. However, I hatched three of these chicks.
(Sorry 4 the multiple images!)
Anyway, I was wondering which breed...
I haven't seen any movement, and it's quite hard to see inside because the chicken egg shells are thicker than my duck egg shells and my candling torch is not great, which means you just see the chicks as a black, chick shaped-like blob. I think I'll just leave them be for a few more days just...
Hi guys,
I recently purchased 12 Sussex eggs. I ended up with 8 good ones at day 18. Today is day 23. 2 hatched 2 days ago, and one hatched midday yesterday. So far there has been no action from the remaining 5. I candled them and one has an unusually large air cell at more of an angle, so...
I was wondering if you could leave eggs in the turning tray for hatching at lockdown, just not being turned? I know most people leave eggs laying horizontal for hatching, which I haven't done so far. Could this be a problem? The worst case scenario is me having to quickly move just hatched...
