Hi guys,
I recently purchased 12 Sussex eggs. I ended up with 8 good ones at day 18. Today is day 23. 2 hatched 2 days ago, and one hatched midday yesterday. So far there has been no action from the remaining 5. I candled them and one has an unusually large air cell at more of an angle, so I'm thinking it probably gave up. 2 have thick, black veins, which I've heard means they've died too. One is going well but hasn't pipped, and the last one the veins are starting to turn black in places. Should I try and help the last one out? Any help is appreciated, as it's my first hatch. Thx:)

I wouldn't help at all. The air cells usually drop on one size just before hatch and generally that is where you see the pip happen .I assume you see no movement? What color are the eggs with dark veins? That late in the game veins are very hard to see. Is the area above the chick and below the air cell clear or cloudy/blotchy?

I haven't seen any movement, and it's quite hard to see inside because the chicken egg shells are thicker than my duck egg shells and my candling torch is not great, which means you just see the chicks as a black, chick shaped-like blob. I think I'll just leave them be for a few more days just in case either way.

I think leaving them alone for now would be the best option. I know in some of my eggs I barely saw any veining at all the entire incubation because the shells were too thick and by the time the veins were big enough to see, the chick was taking up much of the room and turned everything into a big dark blob. I know some of the veins in mine have looked pretty dark and the chicks have still hatched and been fine, so you may be okay.
