Hi. I don’t have roosters, just 6 egg layers. They are in a double fenced secured coop/run so it is super odd. I can try to get better pictures tomorrow. The one that we noticed Friday is also loosing feathers back there, but seems to early to molt.
hi- I have 6 chickens (born in August/September). This weekend 2 out of 6 had wounds (bloody) under the one side of their wings. I am thinking the others are bullying them? We have separated them during the day, treated with saline and veteraycin spray. Picture of one attached. Thoughts? My...
Thanks, she is eating and drinking. But definitely wobbly. We will try to reintroduce her tomorrow. Trick is that she has to use a ladder or fly into the coop if she wants to get out of the run..not sure she can do that yet and it’s pretty cold here still.
Hi- So shes nesting in the bin in my garage with the heat lamp still (extreme wind chills today). She seems to be more active but is still only using right eye to see, we think. She is a tad wobbly when she walks. Thoughts? Guess we keep her in her special garage room for another day or so...
So she laid an egg overnight and this morning her eye was open. We took her out to see the other chickens and she’s walking sideways, thinking the one eye isn’t working. The other chickens were friendly but then one did poke at her a tad. So she’s back in garage for the night.
Our 5 month old Rhode Island Red has a hawk attack her today. She has some surface wounds around her head that we cleaned with saline and neosporin. Her eye was initially opening but now appears to be not opening. Any thought on how to help her eye? She’s standing and moving a bit, wobbly and...
I’m concerned the big chicks won’t let the babies eat at all unless I separate them. When I added the second feeder they divided up and seemed to be territorial. The babies just watched from the coop. Trying to let nature take its course and them establish an order...the older ones should...
There are 3 older ones. Pictures might help.. I did let the big ones out to free range a lot this weekend but I have to go to work today and we have hawks so they are back in the run.
hi- we moved the three five week old chicks out to the coop/run with the big chicks that are about 4 weeks older than them. The older ones won’t let the babies near the food and water. I added another food/water source and they still are territorially.
The baby chicks basically hang out in the...
Hi. We added three new chicks to our flock, any guessss on breed?
Barred rock? The first one has a comb started already?? Please tell me it’s not a rooster!
Yes, this was my gut thought without any knowledge. So exactly when will Mega Mike start making noise like a rooster? And when do I need to seperste him from the others to avoid having chickens?
Here they are growing up! Everyone still think Cornish cross? They are super hesitant to fly out of the coop using the ladder so I’ve been carrying them down. Any reason why one has a rose colored comb versus the other?
Hi! I've got a bit of a dilemma I'm working through. Brand new to chickens, got 6 chicks from the tractor supply and was told 3 were either white rocks or rhode island whites. Given sudden doubling of size, I posted a few pictures in the "raising chicks" forum and have learned that 3 are most...
Thanks, I'll send a note in that forum. The "circle of life" lesson is a tough one, she does eat chicken but the conversation about these particular chicks already had her declare that she's not eating these :) They are her chickie babies ..
