Just an update, in case anyone else was having this issue. The eye soon returned to looking perfectly normal, and to be honest, I'm not even sure there was ever anything wrong with it. She's put on some weight and feathers and is looking a lot better overall.
Thanks for the reply. Yes I can't picture a vet recommending eye surgery or anything, so as long as it doesn't seem to bug her I'll just keep an eye on things. Will post if there's any updates.
I have a 6-12 month old Sussex hen who I haven't seen for some time and who lives with a friend and free-ranges.
I THOUGHT it looked like one of her eyes was less black, and possibly cloudy looking, and she seemed to be favouring the good eye. I picked her up, but unfortunately I was literally...
Technically there are two others, but they have essentially run away and free range across the neighbourhood. I was planning on building a hutch, but the only space here is in mostly sun, and it's just too hot. They do lay though, so the neighbours are happy.
Cheers, yes I think she'd love a flock. We've had a snake around here, it's taken one and we had to beat it off another, so I've been locking her up every night since, but the cage is too small and has no shade, so I can't leave her there during the day :(
Hi Guys
I'll be out of town on holidays and I'm hoping to find somebody local with chickens who can look after my little girl while I'm away.
Yuki is a beautiful five year old blue leghorn who loves people and is always up for cuddles. I really just want her somewhere dogs/snakes will not be...
It's very difficult to get a photo of her with even one eye showing, but here she is thismorning. A blue leghorn in all her glory. She came from a breeder out Laidley way.
She would totes kill me if I refused! She's looking fab at the moment, but just realised all my today photos are on my phone, so will get a more glam shot of her tomorrow (we're on holidays in NSW and she seems to be really enjoying exploring the new garden). Stay tuned...
Ok so to conclude, she seemed to maybe just have a bad bout of diahorrea. I have nfi. She came good a couple of days later thank god, because I had to hold her in the car for 2 hours. No more leaks.
Considering you all might be right about the egg issue theory. While I say she doesn't usually lay, she usually drops at least a dozen a year, and she's just come out of a mault and I did just notice thismorning her comb is in full lay mode again. She is also 4.5 years old so I'm not sure if...
I had a look at the symptoms and it kind of suggests she should be looking generally unwell, but she's absolutely radiant. It also says it's more of a white colour. Thanks for putting it out there though, I'm starting to suspect maybe it is an egg issue, so I'm REALLY hoping this resolves...
It looks more clear than white, I would have just assumed it was water from the grass if I hadn't visually noticed it dripping. But it seems to be "leaking" more than an intentional movement.
Prelude: I spent a good 5 minutes on Google asking "how do you spell Quoka" only to see furry little marsupials. I also googled "what do you call a chickens bumhole?" and got zero results except for a heap of stuff that is not related. So for some reason the internet is not going to help me...
Good news! Looks like it's all but healed, I noticed yesterday I couldn't see it anymore. Thank god. I'm happy to be that dude who doesn't know what it is, just that it goes away on its own.
I was kind of working towards that one persons theory that they just drop off and heal up, so I haven't put anything on it. Will keep updating though because I know how frustrating it is to find a thread with no conclusion.
