I have a 6-12 month old Sussex hen who I haven't seen for some time and who lives with a friend and free-ranges.

I THOUGHT it looked like one of her eyes was less black, and possibly cloudy looking, and she seemed to be favouring the good eye. I picked her up, but unfortunately I was literally on my way to picking up my first set of glasses, so that didn't clarify anything.

In desperation I got a photo, which also doesn't appear to show anything.

But I was just wondering what to do in this situation; will a vet be able to help a degenerative eye issue? Could it be something minor that could be resolved with a visit to the vet? Should I just ignore it and hope it goes away?

She's a lovely chicken and I'd hate for her to be suffering because of it.

I had a light Sussex rooster attacked my a dog or something, he had (and still has) a cloudy eye. We think he was scratched. I'm pretty sure he's blind in that eye, but he still gets around. I would keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get infected. If it started to look swollen or look any worse that what it should normally look like I would take her to the vet

Thanks for the reply. Yes I can't picture a vet recommending eye surgery or anything, so as long as it doesn't seem to bug her I'll just keep an eye on things. Will post if there's any updates.

Ps. I feel like Booker would kill me if she knew I was posting photos of her looking less than fabulous. This is her with a few more pounds on.

Just an update, in case anyone else was having this issue. The eye soon returned to looking perfectly normal, and to be honest, I'm not even sure there was ever anything wrong with it. She's put on some weight and feathers and is looking a lot better overall.
