Thanks for the heads up. I've purchased more guineas, but I need to wait. They all free range together and get along great. But we are considering moving them to their own pen. They are great with predators and being alarm calls. They can still do that during free range times. I will say I don't...
Thanks for the advice folks. I think she had coccidiosis. Our sweet baby passed away. I gave her the medicine too late and I think she had gone too long without eating. We had tried so many different things but it was no use. I should have reached for the corid first. We've put water fowl on...
Hey folks,
I bought a few guinea hens to put in my chicken coop... turns out they are guinea boys! Now I bought some more guineas in hopes that they would mate. Upon reading this morning it turns out Guineas will mate with chickens? What?? Ok fine. Well I was in the midst of about to do a flock...
When do these mature? My local feed store has them in abundance and they are trying to get rid of them cheap. I can't use them for eggs and I don't need anymore pretty birds, but would be willing to use them as meat. Any thoughts?
I like your ideas and it seems as though there is an agreeance that maybe it's diet. Think I'm going to make a bigger effort to keep her on her feed but add in some greens. We are novice also. I thought it would be similar to ducks, but my goose is way easier and way more sweet.
I tried to offer grass she rejected it but I left it there. The chickens went ahead and ate it. LOL I've given her hay because it won't break down as fast as grass but nope, chickens ate that too.
I could accept the diet issue. I think I might try DE also just a smidge in case she picked up...
Goodmorning Folks,
I have a goose that's my bantam birds buddy. She has a place to hang out in water if she wants and she's on feed (which was recently changed and I think she hates it)
She also had a good swim around the pond, which I'm not a fan of because I'm not sure how clean this all is...
Morning folks,
My partner and I are looking at ordering a small batch of roosters to grow out as meat birds. Mostly I want it for the supposedly better chicken stock. Originally I wanted it as my meat bird in general but I'm not sure how I feel about that. Cost wise I know it's supposedly a bit...
As an update, Charlie and the Bantams have been moved outdoors. We finally finished the coop. The bantams have somewhat accepted her into their flock though they don't play around her too much, but they do allow cuddling at night when it's bed time. She is much more relaxed, quiet, eating more...
Thanks for the advice folks. I went back down on their feed already which sits around 15%. Been alot going on in the coop. We have had so MUCH rain this year! So now Im looking at mulch or wood chips to toss on in the coop to help keep it dry. I'm using diatomaceous earth in their feed, run and...
It was about two weeks. I was just worried they were getting too much protein. HOnestly I don't think it's that big of a deal. But, in the effort to try to fix issues I went ahead and switched the food. The poop looked normal yesterday, but I inspect everyday. I do notice that squash changes the...
I would have taken pics of the poo but it may have to wait. I didn't see anything abnormal yesterday. Maybe I jumped the gun. even the little Orpington had pink back on her comb.
So we took Charlie out with us while we worked on the coop and let her walk around her run. She was pretty calm while she could see me, even didn't mind the big chickens in the other run. She was a bit sad when the big chickens went in their house and started quacking for attention.
Now she's...
I'll try to post pics later when I'm back home. I don't do much with treats. Tho now that it seems the worms may be gone I put out some squash today and spinach to replace the vitamin A. I'll cook up some brown rice for b vitamins tonight.
We just set everyone up in a new coop this past...
Just gave mine a dewormer and they are on the mend.Money is a bit tight so I gave them the one listed for kittens which I already had in the cabinet. I'm backing it up with garlic, diotamacous earth and a dust pale for bathing. So far so good.
I know we can give the little girl a good home. And from what I've read about ducks, its just mean to move them all over the place. I really just want to make her happy and do what's best for her. I think she could make a life with my little bantams as soon as we can get everyone out doors. And...
My horrible back story was I was an idiot. This person found what appeared to be a duck in the middle of the road and brought it to the property I'm staying on right now. There's a pond. Didn't seem to be any injuries, possibly a duckling since it was kinda small, like fit in the palm of my...
