Thank you everyone for the help. We are currently building a new coop and will be separating the roosters and hens. We are also considering getting more hens, but right now we have more eggs than we know what to do with. What do you do with your extra eggs besides giving them away and cooking them?
My family has 3 roosters and 7 hens. We recently incubated some of our hen’s eggs which hatched into the 2 new roosters. Our main rooster his name is Sunny. The two new ones are Lyla and Cami, they are angles, so sweet and always come over and let us hold them. Sunny has always been aggressive...
My hen Flick hatched 4 chicks around 6 weeks ago. Recently the chicks have started to peck at her and she has been pecking them as well. Is this something I should be worried about? Are they just determining the pecking order? Should I separate them? I don't want the chicks to get pecked to...
Thank you all for your responses. We candled the eggs and it turned out that they were not fertile. We've also blocked off her nest and taken her outside to try to get her to stop being broody.
Thank you for the help. I have moved her to her own area and I've made sure she gets up to eat, drink, and go to the bathroom. I am going to try candling the eggs to see if they are fertile. The only thing I'm confused about is, why did she only lay 2 eggs?
My hen has been sitting on two eggs for seven days. She won't move when I put my hand under her. Her poop is large and somewhat solid. Should I move her? Is it okay that she's not laying anymore eggs? Isnt she supposed to lay a clutch?
The coop is only about 2 by 4 feet. We have them in separate houses right now while we make a bigger one. When a rooster tries to mate, will they get aggressive? We took Dot outside and Daisy, or Davy, started rushing her and trying to peck her.
Our run is very big I would say about 20 by 10 feet at least. I think our problem is that our coop is too small. They have been together for about a month now. They were fine during the day, but when we tried to get them to sleep together in the same coop they would start fighting.
My hen Flick, an amerucana, is about 6 months old. I have had her since she was 4 days old. After her coop mate Richie died we got two new chickens. Dot, a Wyandotte, is about 5 months old, and Daisy, a lavender amerucana is about 4 months old. Recently Flick and Daisy have started to gang up on...
I just purchased 2 new chickens. 1 lavender amerucauna and 1 wine dot. I currently have them quarentined away from my other amerucauna. I noticed when I brought them home yesterday the lavender amerucauna's nose was running. It was a clear liquid. I checked on her today and it's still wet. I'm...
