Just wanted to show off this pretty girl. She's about 6 weeks old, and I'm fairly certain that she's a blue swedish/ kc cross. Most of the other ducklings we hatched in April have gone on to a new home, but i had to keep her (and a couple others) with me.
I've got a pekin duckling, about 5weeks old, with shakey legs. I have been adding brewers yeast to their feed, but I'm thinking this guy needs some extra? He's the biggest duckling of the bunch, i haven't seen shakey legs on anyone else. If i get some niacin pills to add to their water, will it...
How terrible, I'm sorry! We think either a fox or a coyote grabbed our 3rd KC boy a couple months ago. I guess my neighbor found his head in his back yard. I'm sure he was super happy about that
I have 2 KC boys (used to be 3) who i desperately hoped were females, no such luck. They're 7ish months old and get along well with one another. They're the bachelors, Chuck and Sparky :D
Quick (and possibly silly) question for you guys. I have some ducklings, 2-3 weeks old, and all but one look to be blue swedish crosses (either with a pekin or khaki campbell). If this duckling came out completely yellow, is it possible that it's anything besides full pekin? I'm kind of...
I got my blue swedes at a farm supply store and was told they were mallards. Discovered pretty quickly that they weren't. I have some blue swedish/khaki Campbell (or possibly pekin) mixed ducklings right now.
Little guy (or gal) managed to make it out. Smaller and weaker than the others, and having trouble balancing. But he's sure made a lot of progress since yesterday. Took a little dip in the tub tonight :love
He's still in limbo. Hubs tried to help it out yesterday and said there was still some yolk left, so the poor little guy just isn't ready yet. He's currently wrapped in some damp cheesecloth still partially in the shell. As of now he's still moving around, so we'll take another look later on...
These ducklings are either full pekin, pekin/ blue swedish, or blue swedish/khaki Campbell. I think my swedes produce more eggs, so 3 out of the 4 that have hatched are grayish/brown with some patches of yellow. Temp has been stable as far as i know (this is hubby's area so I'm not certain on...
I *think* my husband may have picked off some shell last night, but i didn't witness it. Humidity says 68% on the incubator. I sprayed just a little water on it and it appeared that there were still "active" (red) vessels there so i'm really hesitant to mess with it. And i have no idea about the...
I'm not entirely sure what happened here, but this little guy is trapped inside the egg, looks like the membrane dried out and kind of shrink wrapped him in there. I know it's typically not advised to assist the hatching process, but is there anything i can do? It's still moving around and i've...
Yes, they get all flock pellets as well. My husband took a look under there this morning and she does in fact have a nest with like, 10-12 eggs he said. He said she was super pissed about him being so close and hissed, which I've never heard them do before.
If the eggs don't survive/ aren't...
I believe my pekin duck has gone broody. She's completely retreated to the small space underneath the duck coop and i rarely see her anymore. At first i thought maybe she was cold or sick, but then it dawned on me once i realized that she'd been a lot more territorial lately that she's probably...
Thought I'd post a little update now that a couple weeks have passed. My pekin drake has made a full recovery and is as mean as ever lol. In fact, he might be a little grumpier than he was before :idunno You can see in the picture he's giving me his signature "I'll fight you human" face :lau...
Originally we had just the pekin drake and 3 females, so a good m/f ratio. Then a couple months later my husband went behind my back and got some khaki campbell eggs and incubated them. They all turned out to be males unfortunately. Things have actually been pretty calm until just recently...
I'm already beginning to witness the gang mating as the khakis have become more interested in the females recently, so it's obviously time to change up their living arrangements. I don't know what it is about these duckies considering none of them are affectionate or friendly toward me, but they...
