Older Pekin being a jerk to young ducklings

Just wanted to update...babies are doing 300% better. Have not left them after dark. They don't mind their indoor digs right now. I am sure in a week it will be even more difficult to wrangle them in each night though! Picture from tonight.

Thanks, everyone. My babies looked well this morning. No blood. They are a bit jumpy though. My husband ia really mad and Mr Duck may find himself Easter dinner if he is not careful!!

You can see in the one picture, the bleeding has stopped. The other is still bleeding, but he has only been in the bath for like 15 min. I had little miss in the tub for a good 30-40 min now. She was bleeding pretty bad. I am so sad for them. :(

Older Pekin being a jerk to young ducklings

Merry Christmas! I have 2 year old Pekin ducks who mated and gave my 5 healthy babies about 5 weeks ago. We have been letting the babies be with the ducks during the day and bringing them in at night. Night before last, we found one of our babies dead, its down had been plucked completely from...

    Poor Duckling

Unfortunately, we decided to cull baby duck today. Its feet/legs were not turning and the one foot just would not flip.either. Plus it was alone. I will keep y'all updated on my incubated eggs though. Thank you all for the advice!!

    Poor Duckling

Anyone have some good links with pictures of duckling/chick slings? I am pretty crafty, but cannot wrap my mind around a sling this little bugger won't slip out of. Going to give it a week and go from there.

The circled foot should be the other way. I am thinking it will not manipulate that way. It is like twisted that way.

    Poor Duckling

Here is the best picture I could get of the leg/foot that won't turn. It is flipped up. I wish one of y'all could be here to help me.

    Poor Duckling

Right after I posted, little bit finally drifted off on its own. I have a feeling I was a bad momma and had the tape on wrong for its legs and it was uncomfortable all night. :( Poor thing was exhausted and couldn't go to sleep. It is sleeping sound and comfy now.

    Poor Duckling

This is the only way this little thing will sleep. Had to take the hobbles off. i am sure they were not on right. Little bit moves around better without. I think the legs are turning more under it now. Its feet are better. Will make a better hobble after work. Yes little baby is indoors.

    Poor Duckling

Thank you for all the advise. I also taped the feet. Seems to be getting a little better. But the little thing just loves to be snuggled and I ran out of day time. Hoping it will be better in the AM.

    Poor Duckling

I will try to snag some photos in a bit. I spent half my day w my duckling and neglected chores and my other birds. Sitting outside with the big birds now. Hoping the taping works for the little one. Thanks for all the advice. I am not one who can just cull. I have to take the birds to a friend.

    Poor Duckling

Born on 11/1. One foot is face up, one face down. So one normal, one not. I just braced it and it actually seems less angry. Before it was scooting around screeching. Now it hanging out by its food, quietly eating. It moves away from it but can get right back, no issues. I hope this helps.

    Poor Duckling

Looks like.one of the feet has corrected, the other is still flipped. Would a sling work to help slowly correct it? I want to give it a little more time since it was stuck in its egg. It IS eating and drinking

Miss Lydia, I have read SO MANY of your posts. I wish you were my neighbor. I can't get the legs in the proper position to hobble. Is it OK if the feet are "upside down"?

    Poor Duckling

First time posting. I have searched the posts for the past 24hrs and I THINK my duckling has splayed legs, but not 100% sure. It looks so much different than all the photos I have seen. what should be the tops of its feet are on the bottom. It needed help, its membrane was most definitely...
