ISA brown hens lethargic with poopy bottoms

She didn't make it. It's doubly sad because I think she got that prolapse by the hen that always laid the biggest eggs. I haven't collected any double yolkers since I noticed her prolapse. Thanks for the support. :hugs

ISA brown hens lethargic with poopy bottoms

I was cleaning her up and it looks like there are now maggots in there as well as some of the tissue has dried out where it was pecked at. I can stuff everything back in but it all comes out again a few seconds later. When it comes out it brings more maggots with it.

ISA brown hens lethargic with poopy bottoms

Thanks for the help. When I felt their abdomens it felt like one had an impacted egg. She basically died in my hands. Once I got the other hen's butt washed off, it looks like she has a prolapse. What should I do to help her with the prolapse? Also, sorry for the gross picture.

I'm getting the rooster so that I am independent of buying chicks from a hatchery. I also like the idea of having someone to protect the flock.

Thanks rosemarythyme. Is chick grit the same as sand? Water melon and green pepper were a big hit among the chicks.

    chick treats?

Thanks for all the help! My chicks liked the mud clod. Next up we will try finely chopped veggies and scrambled eggs. Of course this raises the question of what is grit and how do I give it to my chicks?

    chick treats?

I just got my first flock of day olds, 4 days ago. They are getting chick food, but I would like to start offering treats as rewards for socializing with me. When can I start offering my chicks treats and what are good, healthy treats for them?

    New to chickens

Thanks for the additional warm welcomes and good advice. I was reading the review of the top 10 layers document and it raised a couple of questions for me. What does the phrase "broody" mean? Is it a good idea to start with a mix of adults and chicks?
