    Predator defecated in the coop?

Thank you all for your replies. Yes, we have all those animals around here. Could have been any of them but I suspect weasel or raccoon. This was our own fault for forgetting to shut the run. I would like to install a little spy camera to ID the culprit. He'll be back.

    Predator defecated in the coop?

I stand corrected, my husband just told me the predator did maul her head and back end and did eat her insides so maybe this was a weasel. Anyone ever hear of a predator leaving its bowel movement?

    Predator defecated in the coop?

Our 2nd hen was killed (same as the first), not eaten, not taken away, left in same position. Back end has bite marks, feathers all over but this time predator left his markings in the coop (about the size poop of a 20 pound dog). We are all fenced but we forgot to close the hatch to the run...

    Fox attack need advice please

Thank you for your reply. I called the vet about the hen. The nurse told me what I could do. She also said basically the same thing you did about rabies. Also, not to worry about it too much as rabies was primarily a mammal disease. I went and purchased some small animal repellant (which I was...

    Fox attack need advice please

A fox attacked my hens. We foiled the attempt. 2 lost some feathers but 1 has an eye problem. She is now separating herself. Not sure what other injuries she may have. OK, so here is my question. How do I know they are not going to get rabies? The fox was very healthy looking. Not sure what to...

Lethargic 4 year old Roadie with tail down! Advice Please!!!

Our RIR has been lethargic for 2 days. At first I thought she was broody however, today she won't move from her spot in the run and won't eat or drink even when we try to hand feed her. Her tail is facing downward and I am wondering if she could be egg bound? Not sure what to do or how to help...

Funny kitten noises! Please advice needed!!!!

Update, Jezabell seems to be ok now. Thinking maybe there was an obstruction or something. When my husband let her out of the crate she ran in the coop and started eating oyster shell and filling her gizzard. I don't know. Read some of these other posts and gave her some bread with olive oil...

Funny kitten noises! Please advice needed!!!!

My hen is 1 years old and is making funny noises almost like a kitten (constant noise) with a funny high pitched noise every once in a while. The other hens began to attack her which drew my attention to the unrest. I then noticed her making this consistent funny sound. We separated her from the...

    Hen eating feathers?

Thank you, you both mentioned BOSS. What is that? A type of feed? I am not familiar with that and have not seen it in the local feed store. We have had so much snow this year and I think its starting to get to them. We bought some extra protein to put in their reg food too. I will give them...

Thank you so much! I had a feeling it was that. They are so used to free ranging and eating bugs etc... This has been a tough winter!

    Hen eating feathers?

What in the world does that mean? My husband witnessed two hens scoff down a feather. Does this mean they are lacking in a specific nutrient? We have had a lot of snow but I have been giving them veges, crumbles, oatmeal and their regular mash. They always have water and food available. Is this...

    Bloody Hen - Picking/Fighting

Dawg, i read your post after i closed them up. I hope we did the right thing. We watched her closely with the others and they did try and peck but apparently didn't like the blu coat. We waited until they were all happily on their roost. The white one (Jemima) found her place on the roost and...

    Bloody Hen - Picking/Fighting

Reply urgent! Came home today and found one of my beautiful white stars neck bleeding. Her wattle appears to have been pulled and pecked. We cleansed it thoroughly with peroxide and coated with neosporin. We do have some blu coat so we will coat her also. As I watched them roaming the backyard...
