A fox attacked my hens. We foiled the attempt. 2 lost some feathers but 1 has an eye problem. She is now separating herself. Not sure what other injuries she may have. OK, so here is my question. How do I know they are not going to get rabies? The fox was very healthy looking. Not sure what to do? Any advice will help please!

If you were able to successfully foil the attack, the fox doesn't have rabies. If he did, you would be lucky you didn't get attacked too. Your question was about rabies, not treating the injured chicken, so I'm not going into that but also because I probably won't know what to tell you.

Thank you for your reply. I called the vet about the hen. The nurse told me what I could do. She also said basically the same thing you did about rabies. Also, not to worry about it too much as rabies was primarily a mammal disease. I went and purchased some small animal repellant (which I was told would be for fox too). However, the vets office said it might work as the opposite for a fox due to the amonia content which would attract the fox thinking there was small prey. Geeeeez! Guess I'll return that tomorrow! So now, I will lock the girls up good and tight and not let them free range so early in the morning. Not sure what else I can do.
