    Sick or injured chicken... help

I’ve separated her from the flock & given her a separate box with a heat light. After being in there for a bit she at least seems to be a bit more alert. I thoroughly maybe she had an impacted crop after some reading but her crop feels empty. Not soft or anything just empty & flat. Normally in...

    Sick or injured chicken... help

One of my hens is either injured or sick. I don’t see anything that indicates she’s been hurt, but she’s breathing heavy & fast & stays almost limp if you touch her. She is normally the only skiddish bird out of my six. I walked right up to her pet her & picked her up without the slightest...

    First egg!

Congratulations. Most of my flock started laying about 6 weeks ago & was very random at first. You could expect a missed day or two here & there among other things. My girls at first would randomly lay for each bird. I had a few soft shells, some odd shaped & a couple oops eggs. Now they are...

    Double yolkers

Ours are all around 5 months now. They just started laying about 4 weeks ago. Our sapphires have been pretty consistent giving us one a day & nice extra large sized. These last two we just can’t get over how big they are.

    Double yolkers

One of my sapphire gems has given us a couple monster double yolkers two days in a row now! My wife & I thought they was already laying some pretty big eggs, Man we was wrong. The first barely fit in a jumbo egg carton. Today’s unfortunately cracked when it hit the nest box floor though. Pretty...

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

Having Easter eggers laying, almost every person I’ve came across that I ask if they’ve ever seen a blue or olive chicken egg. One they are simply dumbfounded that it’s a real egg. Then almost always followed by can you eat them & do they taste different. I think I’m gonna start telling people...

    Insulating your coop?

So on ventilation, would a simple gable & eve vent system work like you would do on a home? I had thought about going that route in some fashion. I just wasn’t sure what if any kinda down draft it might cause in the coop.

    Insulating your coop?

I live in central IN & if anyone is familiar with our weather it’s pretty unpredictable. Our temporary coop is about to get retired in place of a larger more well built coop. I’m wrestling with the idea if I should bother insulting the coop? Their current coop is insulated all around with 2”...

    Solved Creating a post?

I cannot seem to find a simple link anywhere to start new posts. Actually I clicked several links to finally find this & now am not completely sure how I got here. Is there something obvious I’m missing. The only post I have made was through an original email when I first joined & I no longer...

    Olive egger?

One of my Easter eggers looks very similar to yours & I think she is responsible for our first olive egg today. Is yours also light gray under her wings & top feather layer? It looks like she is from the picture.

    Timid Easter egger

Hers are pretty laid back. Her Bantams are very friendly & their young, maybe only a few months older than mine. Her oldest is maybe 3 I don’t remember what breed she is but also real easy going. They’ve never shown any pecking order antics like mine do. Though again Runt never seems to get...

    Timid Easter egger

I have one Easter egger in my group of 6 chickens who is very different from the group. She is the smallest of the bunch. At one point we didn’t think she’d make it. She was tiny as a chick & ended up getting pasty butt which we remedied with olive oil for a few days before it cleared up & she...

    Soft shells?

My gosh, I’d forgotten the crazyness posting on forums can be. One trying to navigate & figure the page out. The other is the slew of opinions & bickering that starts up,lol. I definitely don’t think having chickens is rocket science. I can certainly understand some things should be kept in...

    Soft shells?

I don’t recall the mix. He gets it from a local feed store that processes it there. I dont recall the protein amount, but I do know it has mixed grains as well as calcium added. I do trust him though as he raises several poultry both for eggs & his kids 4H. As well as cattle & hogs & has been...
