    My Belgian D’uccle!

I show for fun, but most people who show advertise their stock to sell, since it costs more to show then you win usually haha. People come to shows to buy the best stock from award winning birds usually. I don’t breed however, I just enter because I bought from a show line and thought it’d be fun

    My Belgian D’uccle!

I just wanted to share how well my Belgian D’uccle is maturing! The first picture is right after showing her this last fall, where she was 4 months old. The rest of the picture are of her now, nearly 10 months old! She won first last year, and I’m hoping she will do the same this fall!

    Breed?

it is a long life! She was the last of our 12, but a few weeks before she passed her last friend mr. Fatty died, and she kept jumping the fence after that and running down into the woods. She eventually got eaten by a coyote before we could get her.

    Breed?

Does anyone know what breed this chicken is? This picture is of me when I was 4-5, and this was one of my favorite chickens named raccoony (because she ‘looked like a raccoon’). She lived to be 12-15. I’m not sure what color eggs she laid, but we used to get light brown, medium brown, cream...

My Cornish cross rooster, an oops

I’m sad to announce, but Mr. Fat has died unexpectedly last night. I’m happy for all the time we’ve had together, but this was really unexpected. I let him out in the morning and he was his normal self, and when I went to lock them up at night, he was dead. He was over 20lbs when he passed, and...

How much to feed my Cornish cross?

hopefully I’m doing something right! He can do everything that all the other hens can do, which includes running, jumping at the food can, pulling water dishes out of my hand, climbing up the stairs to get the food that I’m eating, and of course, shaking sand out of his feathers into my eyes...

How much to feed my Cornish cross?

that’s a nice story, but I’m not trying to make him lose weight, I am trying to maintain his weight. I’m not sure this article will help with what I’m looking for, but it was nice to read about!

How much to feed my Cornish cross?

Hi! I feed my layers 1/4 a pound per chicken per day, but I have this one Cornish cross that I have no idea how much to feed, as he always seems hungry. He was supposed to be a laying hen, but the store gave me him instead . He’s about 20lbs and I’m currently feeding him 1.5lbs per day (6...

    Vents?

It is VERY sturdy plastic, Not that weak thin netting. It seemed almost as strong as the hardware cloth, and twice as cheap, so I went with it instead. I only have to deal with stray cats and hawks in the day, so I don’t see an issue using it

    Vents?

Here are the pictures of the inside! One roost, 4 inches of pine flakes, and a milk crate covered and filled with hay

    Vents?

thats interesting! If it gets too hot in the summer I’ll be sure to switch it to the metal then, thank you! I’ve always made coops with shingles, so this is the first coop without them haha

    Vents?

I actually almost sealed the ribs, but I decided against it since the seals let as much air in as they blocked up. I did think after that it would be good for vents though. I also thought metal would heat up more? That’s why I decided to go for plastic. It seemed everyone was using it, and I...

    Vents?

no it’s alright! I figured you were more concerned about the inside

    Vents?

I did say where I was from, in the exact same post you quoted I can’t keep them inside, and I’d much rather them outside since they enjoy it way more.

    Vents?

I can’t really insulate the coop due to the way the doors are. I am using 4” of bedding + a hay filled milk crate. Like I said previously, I am not so worried about the heat of the summer. My other birds were just fine with a coop like this in the summer (and they lived 12 years). I am just...

    Vents?

I didn’t take pictures of the inside (I forgot). It’s just an open space with one roost in the corner, and about 4” of pine flakes as bedding. I will also be adding a milk crate full of hay and covered in hay tomorrow (the feed store wasn’t open today and I ran out of hay). I live in mid...

    Vents?

I finished the coop! I added 2 3” vents, but I can add 2 more if needed. The roof also adds a bit of ventilation since it’s not airtight underneath. Let me know what you think! There is 1’ of roof over the run, but I’ll be moving snow out as well when it snows heavy (also the birds are in there...
