Getting flack for killing our meaties -- and need some reassurance!

I feel your pain. My mom, who is the biggest meat eater on the planet, gives me a dirty look every time I mention that we might butcher some of our chickens for food. That's her hang up. Not mine. Live your life. Let others live theirs. It's really all you can do. Let us know how it goes.

Why do people intentionally break the law?

The only children I have any business explaining anything to are my own. I have no problem telling my own children that there is a difference between rape/murder and keeping a few chickens illegally but even my children don't really need to be told something so obvious. I'm quite comfortable...

Why do people intentionally break the law?

I live in California, which is on the verge of bankruptcy. If the government has enough money to stop me from keeping a few illegal chickens then they have enough money to fix the schools, fix the welfare system, enforce immigration laws, fix the roads, build some more freeways, etc., etc...

    Gritty situation

It seems that common wisdom suggests that grit should be supplied free choice but when I put out a small bowl of it (a full measuring cup full), it is gone by the end of the day. I have 6 chickens that are using the grit right now. How long do they hold it in their beak? I don't know if they...

    runty silkie

the white (perhaps buff) guy in the front is super runty. cut to a few weeks later...he's about a 1/3 the size of his siblings. He's a feisty one though. love him or her, hopefully her. so now i'm wondering what he'll look like when he's a 'big' chicken. any adult runt silkie pictures...

Math skills are important when raising chickens...

Quote: and bantams only count as 1/2 a chicken. hope my husband buys this logic when our 30 chicken surprise (to him at least) show up in the mail this week!! so, 7 pullets in the coop + 4 pullets in the brooder -2 free pullets + 4 silkies + 30 bantams (1/2 of which will be roosters) = 26...

i'm so stinkin tired but i'm about halfway done - updated pics!

Quote: Haha! My husband began the project with me but quickly grew tired of the insanity. I've been on my own since the framing was put up on the legs. It's all about girl power! But I have to admit that I am intimidated by the whole roofing aspect of the thing... Chixmama - yep, the Ts...

5/23/10 - I was so wrong. I was not even close to half way done. Still needs a roof but I had to get the chickens in. Here's the watering system Waiting on my chicken nipplers from Farmtek. They shipped last Monday...getting impatient. The feeder and temporary waterer...
