Yeah it’s really odd. 😅😅 This happens almost every time she went to lay. She didn’t scratch with her feet to roll the egg out. She uses her beak to roll it out of the box. That’s what we seen in the camera. The lip we have in the nest box is about 0.75 inch. We might try with the higher lip as...
Hello, recently we noticed we got eggs being pushed out of the nesting box. Then we checked our coop camera and saw this odd behavior on one of our hens. She’s a SLW about 1.5 years old. She would push another chicken egg out of the nesting box before she used it. She’s the lowest in the pecking...
Thank you. After a month of wearing the peepers, she reduced her pecking habit, however, after she started to get used to the peepers and she began to peck again. I really don’t want to clip her beak. That sounds inhumane to me. I will be separating her from others and observe her more. 😞
She doesn’t have a specific time. Mostly she picks when she sees the other hens’ butt in front of her. Like just now they were eating grass/weed in the yard next to each other and she just picked a bunch of feather from the BO’s butt. I scolded her and she still tried to pick more. 😞
I have 3 hens (BO, RIR and SLW) about 10 months old. We started to see some feather missing from the SLW and later with the BO. The SLW has bare butt now. Although the RIR is lower in pecking order than the BO, she is the culprit here. I really need advice how to stop this behavior. We tried...
Thanks! I saw she sneaked to sleep in the nesting box last night! But she came right out in the morning before the coop door opened. She stayed outside whole morning but she went back in the nesting box in the afternoon to brood ‘air’ again.... I think the signs are getting more obvious here...
She does make that cluck cluck sound a lot. Like as of now she’s been in the nesting box for 2 hours already. However, she will eventually come down and she does sleep on the roost at night.
Yes she made the low cluck cluck noise but she goes to roost normally at night. I just feel she is...
My 3 hens would walk a few steps away then they would start to preen themselves after the bath (after blow dry). I think your relaxed Isa brown is super friendly!
PS. None of my hens are Isa brown
I have a 9-month old BO that has stopped laying for almost 4 weeks. She started laying when she was 6-month old and had been laying every other day. Now she would go into the nesting box, not laying but sit on others eggs for about 1-1.5 hours everyday. She would come out and sing her egg song...
Yes I will. So far nothing weird in the past two days. She didn’t show any sign of being sick at all. The three of them hang out together all the times. The BO seem to be on top of the pecking order too.
Thank you. We will keep monitoring her. We feed them Scratch and Peck Layer feed. We also give them separate bowl of crushed oyster shell for them. We also give them treat mealworms and fruit from time to time.
We are new to keeping chickens. We have 3 chickens at 23 weeks old (SLW, RIR and BO). SLW and RIR started laying at 21 weeks old. Only the BO hasn’t started laying yet. All of them have free choice feed of crushed oyster shell. This late morning we found this on the floor. Wasn’t sure who did...
Hi, just taught two of my chickens to ring a bell and would like to share that they can learn this trick really fast! Chickens are really food motivated!
I started by having scratch in one hand, then I started to ring the bell with another hand and move the hand with scratch to the chicken. I...
That’s the opposite of mine. My SLW will jump up on my lap and she doesn’t mind I pet her while I hand feed her treat! My Buff would just ran away and observed the others eating treat out of my hand!
