Combining to 2 groups of ducks - Advice Needed Wild Mallards & Khaki Campbells

There is one male mallard and one female. They do share this night time space separated by that short fence. I could just leave as is...I have a small home made "dog house" for covered shelter now for the mallards and I could give it a closable door for winter. I just would like them to all...

Combining to 2 groups of ducks - Advice Needed Wild Mallards & Khaki Campbells

You are correct. I am in violation of the letter of the law but hopefully not the spirit of law. I just want what is best for them and have no intentions on dumping them off somewhere. I hatched them from a ravished nest. I have undergone a lot of soul searching since then. Maybe they should...

Combining to 2 groups of ducks - Advice Needed Wild Mallards & Khaki Campbells

The 2 wild mallard ducklings I raised this summer appear to be hanging around for the long haul. Which is wonderful BUT. I have a duck enclosure that is 20 x 10 with a garden shed off the side for night time housing. Fully fenced, top and sides. I had that enclosure divided roughly in half...

Fostering Wild Mallards ducklings- need leg band suggestions

I wondered about that. I think my husband will help but I guess I better ask him first. I do have the spiral type and I have had trouble getting them on so I imagine these would be even harder. Not very expensive though which is good if they don't work out for me.

Fostering Wild Mallards ducklings- need leg band suggestions

You raise some valid points and it is a concern of mine. But, they are welcome to stay. I have 3 Khaki Campbell ducks, an adequate duck house, and small pond. Wild mallards come and go throughout the spring. I am hoping they will learn to forge in the pond area before trying their wings...

Fostering Wild Mallards ducklings- need leg band suggestions

My goal is to let the 2 wild mallard ducklings go free when they can fly.......but I would love to see if they come back. I have been searching for the best leg band for them. I have the plastic spiral type band for my other ducks.......but that doesn't last forever. Any suggestions on where...

Starting out as a duck mama

I don't consider myself an expert but your pictures like very much like juvenile mallard ducklings.....they could be flying any day now. The adult feathers don't come in until fall. If you first starting feeding them as little tiny ducklings then I expect they lost their mother. I guess you...

Wild Mallards 1 week old today

Just an update..........the 2 wild mallards that hatched are 1 week old today. I've attached a birthday photo. I think you can see the difference in sizes. But, the tiny one eats, sleeps and poops just fine. They have names......Remmy for the big guy and Razz for the little girl. Of course I...

Thank you. I did manage to get the poor fellow out. His foot was crossed over his eyes almost like a rubber band. But, he is tiny. I still have 1 unhatched egg, no pip or crack. Float test still shows a "good" egg what I don't know is it living or just a fertilized developed egg that died...
