    Expanding my run

I have a large coop with about an 8x8’ run attached. I have been out of the chicken business for about 2 years and ready to get back. I have several large trees in the perfect spot to use as posts. I’m going to make a pretty large area their new run and trying to decide how to top it off. Was...

Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

I haven’t been on here for a while bc a raccoon slipped into my coop that I thought was secure and killed the last on my flock. I haven’t gotten anymore bc I wanted to give myself a break from the devastation that caused and to fix the problems with my coop. I think my coop is now secure and I...

is this egg okay to eat?

I didnt get a picture of the inside, but the yolk was broken once I finally got it out. I do know which bird and she is about 2 years old. Hers have always been this way, but never with the yolk sticking. She was given to me last summer and never really laid consistently for me.

is this egg okay to eat?

One of my chickens only lays eggs that look like this. They are rough at the top and when I crack it, sometimes the yolk will get stuck at the top and not come out. Once it came out and I cooked it, but it tasted weird so we didn't eat it. Should I eat or throw away?

    Feeling Very Guilty...Need Advice

I completely understand how you feel. You are a very caring person and you love your chickens and wanted to give love to another animal who needs it. Is the dog allowed in the house? If so, yoh could leave the dog in the house for a while and let the chickens out to free range. I don't think I...

My run is so muddy and its starting to stink

I have a ditch that runs I side right next to the base of the coop and water seems to run along it. Where I see the most buildup is right at the bottom of the steps leading up the ramp to inside the coop. Wouod you suggest sand or no?

My run is so muddy and its starting to stink

It has been so rainy that my run is muddy and smells terrible! The flooring was grass and is now just dirt and mud. Should I think about a different type of flooring? If so, what would you suggest?

    Blood on my chicken

I have 5 hens who get along pretty perfectly. I went down today and one had dried blood all over her head. I caught her and it looked like she had a small place beside her eye, but it didn’t look like she had been picked on or anything. Do I need to treat this or separate her because the others...

    Is she being picked on?

All of my chickens get along really well and I haven’t seen anyone bother her, but under chin seems to always be wet and she has a spot underneath her mouth. I’m not sure if her mouth is always wet bc it has been so hot that she is drinking a lot more or what? Just wondering if you can tell what...

    New hens aren’t laying

I have a Brahma, Rhode Island Red, and a White Leghorn. They aren’t free range all the time, but I do let them out at least an hour a day to graze.

    New hens aren’t laying

I had gotten an egg the second day of having them, but I haven’t been real sure who laid it. I have been getting white eggs from my Leghorn, which was mine from the beginning, but the Cuckoo Moran is suppose to lay brown eggs and I have only gotten 2 brown in 2 weeks. I do t know exactly how old...

    New hens aren’t laying

You are probably right! I’ll go ahead and switch so everyone can be happy. One of my 5 month olds is already laying, so it’s probably time!

    New hens aren’t laying

I recently got new 1 year old hens to go with my 5 month old hens. They are all getting along now, but the new hens aren’t laying eggs like I was told they did before they got here. It has been about 2 weeks since they have been here. Should I be concerned that they aren’t laying? They are...

    Older hens added

I think I need to get them some oyster pellets because they do not have another source of calcium. Thanks

    Older hens added

I just added 2-one year old hens to my 4-5 month old hens. They are now living in harmony, but is it a big deal that they are eating grower/finisher pellets rather than laying pellets?

    Can I keep my rooster?

Thank you for your wonderful feedback. He is absolutely beautiful and I hope he stays just like he is

    Can I keep my rooster?

I am still very new to the chicken raising life. I have 5 hens and 1 rooster. If he is friendly now at 20 weeks, will that change? Also, is it true that if you have a small flock, the rooster will “wear the hens out”? Is it best to get rid of him now before anything changes? Struggling!

    Hoping this is a hen

I loved this chicken! My daughter will be so disappointed. Thanks guys. We can’t keep him bc we live in city limits, but I have a friend who will take him.
