It has been so rainy that my run is muddy and smells terrible! The flooring was grass and is now just dirt and mud. Should I think about a different type of flooring? If so, what would you suggest?

A solid run roof and wood chips. Lots of wood chips.Should I think about a different type of flooring? If so, what would you suggest?
I have a ditch that runs I side right next to the base of the coop and water seems to run along it. Where I see the most buildup is right at the bottom of the steps leading up the ramp to inside the coop. Wouod you suggest sand or no?Plenty of "Compost Browns" to create a deep litter should solve the odor issue. Wood chips, shavings, straw, pine straw, old leaves, and so on.
Is water running into your run/collecting in a low spot or is it just the ridiculous amount of rain we easterners have seen in the past week that's causing problems in a normally dry run?
