One Blue Swedish free to a good home in Maryland

Hi all, Fox predation has reduced our flock of ducks to one Blue Swedish. We aren’t confident that we can keep her safe, and she will be lonely. We would like to give her to a safe home with opportunity to swim and perhaps fly. If you live in MD and want a lovely lady duck, reply below.

    Can these ducks recover?

@DiYMama540 : Yes, he drinks readily. We have a routine of putting him in the utility sink for a bath. He dips his head in and drinks. He also pooped black last night. I assume that’s nutridrench coming through?

    Can these ducks recover?

Thanks. The tube comes soon. I guess I don’t understand how he will transition back to eating. Do we just keep offering peas and grain until one day, he goes for it?

    Can these ducks recover?

Update: Fed Ferny 15mL of pediasure by syringe. He seemed to like it. Tomorrow we’ll do a NutriDrench appetizer and follow up with more pediasure. Is 30mL a good target amount? The tip of the tongue is a mess. I’ll post pics tomorrow. It makes sense that he would be reluctant to eat. He...

    Can these ducks recover?

Update: Duckbill Ferny isn’t eating and is losing weight. The others have some reintroduction stress. They peck at his neck for a bit, but then settle down. So for now, Duckbill stays in the garage and has supervised day visits with the posse. Any feeding help?

    Can these ducks recover?

Yes, they were. They even waited up for him on the trek to the neighbor’s pond. Today he’s much more animated and is taking gruel.

    Can these ducks recover?

We have three that fled the scene of the crime and were rounded up unharmed. We’re building a day enclosure for them. We’re concerned about reintroducing Ferny to the others. We’ll just have to see.

    Can these ducks recover?

Very helpful, thanks. Our big immediate concerns are discerning whether there is any infection, and trying to make sure flies don’t lay eggs. We’ve put multiple doses of neosporin on the exposed wounds, but I can’t guarantee no flies in the garage.

    Can these ducks recover?

Update: Duck #1 (hereafter Duckbill Ferny) is improving. She’s taken pedialyte and a little gruel. She also drank a fair amount today (500mL) and seems to be in better spirits. We’re administering Nutri-drench right now.

    Can these ducks recover?

Update: Duck #1 has lost her sense of balance. We suspect dehydration, despite vigorous attempts to keep her hydrated. Any ideas?

    Can these ducks recover?

We had to put the second one down. Her breathing was getting more labored, and we couldn’t foresee a good outcome.

    Can these ducks recover?

Two of our ducks were attacked yesterday and lost parts of the beak. Duck #1 lost about 1/3 of the beak and Duck #2 lost about 3/4. The tongue is intact. See pics. We gave emergency care - bath, water, antibiotic. Both are breathing normally today. We want to help these ducks recover if...

Ducks need new predator plan asap

Hi all, We messed up. We built a duck house using guidelines found here and elsewhere, and it has been fine. But, we mistakenly thought it would be ok for the ducks to free-range during the day and be enclosed at night. It worked well. The flock of seven came out in the morning and...
