    Introducing chickens in winter?

thanks for the quick reply!! and yes in the winter we wrap the run in clear plastic to block wind and snow from getting in, and then in the coop (upstairs a little ramp from the run) we have what looks like a tv- it’s a black heating panel that keeps the coop nice and warm. That’s why i am...

    Introducing chickens in winter?

Hello everyone. We are down to our last hen unfortunately, her best mate just passed last night. They are three years old and her mate had just gone through a huge molt and the heat we have been experiencing just took her last bit of energy, she didn’t make it thru the night. Anyways, our last...

Hi all. I have 11 month old silkie bantam hen that has all of a sudden had a decline in health. we feed her and her two flock mates a local farm store’s poultry blend and keep their water clean, and then give table scraps every so often. she was laying up until two days ago. she still scratches...

    Pullet standing with tail downwards

Hey all!! One of my five month old silkie bantams is acting very strange. She has always been the quieter one of the group in her flock and never really was energetic like some of the others. So today I go back there to check on em after school and she is standing very awkwardly. Her bum/tail...

very broody hen won’t be broken!!!

hello all. i have a year and three month old silkie hen who appears to be broody. she has been once before, in early spring, and keeping her out of her nesting box for a week seemed to fix her. this time, she is much more stubborn. her nesting box is kind of like a dog house style on ground...
